Re: Transfer rumours and news.....

Reading this thread just confirms what I thought. Since we have been in the National League we have lost the closeness and family feeling the old Moors had. All we seem to have now is a diverse mix of whingers who are never happy and just want to put the club down, then there are those of you in the rose-tinted glasses who think all is great. What's happened to the days when we were happy to go and watch the Moors, not care who pulled on the shirt and we just enjoyed the match days and seeing some good grass roots football. Moors are never going to make it big in the National league. We don't have the set up, the financial backing or the fan base and it is these three things that you need to attract the players some of you think we have the right to sign!

Bring back the good old days and I know some of you will come back and say "watching tranmere with 1800 people is better than watching Workington with 180". But is it really. That is one match a season plus a 2 or 3 more against Chester etc but I think promotion to the national league has brought in a load of grief, too high and unreal expectations that cause a lot of bad feeling between everyone.

I know I will probably be told to clear off to Tythe Barn Lane and watch Highgate if I want that level of football (I do aim slightly higher than that level and that is no disrespect to Highgate) but surely I can't be the only one who can see that Moors as a club was run and competed better in the Conference North than how we are competing now and how some of you are reacting as "supporters"!

I agree with the sentiment, Steve, but I think you're also guilty of a bit of rose-tinted thinking about the past. There have always been complaints about players, and always been people saying it doesn't matter because we punch above our weight. This is nothing new. Just more amplified now because there are more people (and - dare I say it - a little bit of an undercurrent of people thinking, "what does x really know; they've only been watching for y years"). I'm also guilty of wearing Workington, Blyth, Burscough, etc. as a badge of honour when it suits me.

I never expected (nor particularly wanted) to see the Moors play at this level. I don't think that disqualifies me from being disappointed with transfers.

What irritates me more than the signings themselves is the constant repositioning of the club and its yes men about the situation. First of all we're told that we're just getting rid of experienced but inferior overpaid players, then it's that they wanted to leave despite being offered more money, then it's that they were too expensive again, then it's that a load of players from Step 3 are better anyway... It's all a bit Winston Smith - stick the old excuse in the memory hole because our position has always been that Stourbridge had a better squad last season than Solihull Moors.

If it's a budget issue then that's fine; totally understandable. Just don't try to dress it up as something else.

Without wanting to upset all the happy clappers. There's a reason why Stourbridge never got promoted out of the Northern league and is skimming off the cream of their squad going to help us out at this level? Against full time professionals? Somehow I doubt that.

There is no reason why we could not attract one or two experienced Conference National players, who maybe aren't playing in this league now but have done in the past. Perhaps on the older side, cheaper maybe, but it wouldn't matter as this is all we would need to have a squad to at least compete this year. We are the only club at this level for miles as has been said so it's not like we're competeing with anybody for players.

Harking back for the old days is a dangerous game to play. Yes it was fun, sometimes, but back in 2008/09 we were really punching above our weight just to be in that division. If we ever got relegated I don't think we will ever be the same as we were back then, we're a totally different beast now whether we like it or not.

To seasons ago x amount of players were told, that the club would almost certainly going fulltime, if we stayed in the top league. Witch would have have attracted better players. Now all those players have gone, and been replaced from lower levels. The manager is out of his depth. He showed that when we played Barrow at home then Torquay playing one up front, I won't mention Tranmere.

If the fans have no ambition, why should the club or players for that matter..what was the point in getting into this league. Marcus brought the players in, this tin pot has got rid of them all.

The whingers have always been here, and if you don’t know that then I doubt you were around for the real bad times we’ve been through (not a dig by the way).

Ps. I’ve been a whinger since about 2009.

Wow. Just catching up on here and it's still full of moaners. You're already disregarding players that you haven't seen play - ffs.

We were good enough to get into this league. Fact.
We were good enough to stay in this league. Fact.
We'll be good enough to stay in this league. Fact.

Players signed from leagues below proved last year they were good enough. I am confident they will do it again. Disappointed at a few of the departures, but reasons for them leaving are unclear.

I'd have hoped there would be more chat about the excitment of Benbow and Dapo tearing up this league.
