Solihull 1-1 Torquay

Well, it was bloody freezing, and despite what was at stake I Thought the crowd was a bit flat. Perhapt it was the lack of the Bard and his usual wit and wisdom..?!
Probably a fair result overall. Solihull had the bulk of possession, however I felt the visitors had the better chances. Indeed, it felt a bit like both had settled for a draw before the game (not implying anything dodgy btw). The visitors brought a decent awat following, however even thet seemed a little subdued.

In terms of the game, a well-won penalty for the visitors towards the end of the first half. A scrambled equaliser by the hosts with just under 10 mins to go. A couple of Solihull players perhaps had a bit of a bad day at the office; however I think defensively the visitors were first rate, and won virtually every ball into the box.

Although... 4 mins of injury time - where did that come from?!

As I sit here trying to ignore Mrs O's screaming at the television, watching the wrong shaped ball game, I find myself in agreement with Martyr. We didn't really start to play until we'd scored, and if Torquay hadn't wasted so much time that we could all have taken a nap every time the ball went out of play in their favour, they might have won the game. One nil and they fucked it up. I couldn't even bring myself to vote for a man of the match.

Probably a fair result but doesn’t really suit either team - Torquay are now 7 points from safety and we are further from safety after one of our ‘easier’ home games. First half we were poor and didn’t seriously look like scoring until we got a scrappy one from a set piece, despite being better in the second. Had a couple of decent chances after but would have been a smash and grab if managed to get the winner.

You can't waste time, because the referee adds it back on again at the end.
Which may explain where the 4 minutes came from?

Re: Solihull 1-1 Torquay

Thought a draw was a fair result based on the performance. Max was arguably the busier of the 2 keepers, made a few crucial saves. On the other hand, we dominated possession, hit their post and scored from "open play", whereas Torquay had to rely on a soft penalty decision for their goal. You could tell as soon as they got their goal they were going to sit back and make it difficult to score, which overall they were effective at.

I'm usually reluctant to criticise match officials as it's a largely thankless task but I thought this ref was awful. Very inconsistent and the penalty looked harsh (from where I was watching) About the only thing I applaud him for was booking a Torquay player for time wasting at a throw in.

Still have hopes of survival, but if we get relegated by a narrow margin, the failure to pick up a win in this game and the Gateshead game could come back to haunt us.

Thought Kelleher had a nightmare game and almost gifted them three points with a needless challenge in the area, Carter had a very poor game as well, luckily we got ourselves out of a hole. On to Bromley now with hopefully a better performance we can't afford to keep dropping points though if we are to get out of trouble.

Poor game. We were lucky to get an undeserved point. They battled well in defence playing the ball out wide well and closed our only effrctivemidfield - Osbourne - down well.
Penalty was stupid, real Sunday morning stuff, we had 3 on 1 in the centre, so unnecessary and it was definitely a penalty.
Carter was quiet.
Jammah was busy but there was often just not enough width.

Time to just write that one off and move on, roll on Tuesday.

Ignoring the opportunity to comment that your better half should be used to odd-shaped balls (you reading Roj?!!) - Thanks for the positive review.

Three of the four minutes of added time were due to substitutions, six at thirty seconds each. The other minute? God knows, but overall they wasted far more than a minute.

Ridiculous penalty to give away, Kelleher needs to have a good look in the mirror at that one and his pathetic performance. I don’t know whether he’s a little too comfy these days but I’d be reminding him, another performance like that and your out!

Did Alex Reid actually touch the ball first half? I noticed him bottle a few physical challenges...again, look in the mirror son....you up for tut battle. Play like that again, your out.
