£10 for a pre-season friendly - really?!

Indeed, where else can you get 90 minutes of entertainment for a tenner?

I recently bought a round of drinks for five of us and the cost was £[sign in to see URL], by the end of the evening, about three hours, we'd spent over a hundred quid between us.

Silly me.

A tenner to watch a bunch of (likely no-hope) trialists, with the occasional splattering of established player losing weight/regaining match fitness (delete as appropriate) in a nothing-at-stake game – absolute bargain! And chuck in a couple of water breaks if it’s a bit warm, along with virtually no atmosphere, given a minimalist crowd...

Perhaps the Sunday parks should start charging a fiver. And I’d better mention to the Shirley players that the £10/ticket they are charging for their comedy/murder mystery should be nearer £100 – after all, that’s what you’d spend in the West End.

Did you ever write for Not the Nine O'Clock News? [url][sign in to see URL]
I’m with Mr Mulligan!

As a season ticket holder it will cost nothing to see the home games, it's all about supporting the club, like buying a program, half time drink, beer in the bar, etc.. I can understand that being a Merthyr supporter you may not wish to support Solihull, but for Moors' supporters it's different. Just think, I could spend my season ticket money a new three bedroomed house in Rhydyfelin.

Nobody is forcing you to go to any games Martyr and anyway judging by your posts you love yourself a lot more than you do the club.

Martyr is just trying to increase the attendance by stating he won't be going. Don't discourage this excellent effort.

/Indeed –nor shall I. For the record I do - and apparently more than the now-previous manager!

Firstly, can I say if you can buy a house anywhere for £200 I’d strongly encourage you to do so. The )atest ONS survey apparently indicates Wales as a tremendous investment opportunity (albeit from a low base) – but then looks like you aren’t one to let the facts get in the way.
My beef is with pre-season charges. Seems a bit extreme to have to buy a season ticket just to get into meaningless games. Interestingly, I note on other threads there are questions about the value of a season ticket. Personally, I don’t think its bad value – however do take the point from more knowledgeable folk that its comparable with some league season ticket prices. And – on that subject – perhaps you’d like to take a pop at the Blues/Villa/WBA (not to mention wider afield such as Sheffield and London) fans that consider Solihull to be their second side (as I do). Note a number always attend say Birmingham games when the home games fixtures clash. For what its worth, I’ve been watching Solihull Borough (predominantly) and Moor Green since the early ‘90’s – in the days when a crowd over 200 caused a nosebleed - so like to think I’m not a fair-weather fan. You are absolutely entitled to think differently.
In closing, if you really want to support the side – why not pay on the gate? That way, they get more in the long run. Or, you can do as I do with Merthyr – set up various standing orders for the season ticket, short sponsorship (one for y’all to think about doing), junior Martyrs, 50/50, etc etc etc.

I am truly sorry you find it difficult to take a joke and being one who believes that if you can't laugh at yourself, you have no right in taking the piss out of other people, I try to keep the levity rate as high as possible. Incidentally my Welsh connections are extremely strong which is why I feel able to ironically take the piss, although at the same time, I do not feel the need to justify myself to those who cannot. As you say, Moors is your second team, Villa is mine so I guess I'm fucked next season, whereas your second team will probably outperform your preferred favourites, I will be happy if my second team manage to match or better my first team's achievements. Love and peace.
