Re: RIP Ernie " Donkey Kick " Hunt - What unique goals have Moors scored ?

I thought the D was still used to keep players 10 yards from a penalty kick but saying that the encroachment these days is a joke.

Bit like sticking the ball up your shirt and running in the goal with it.

Technically no rules broken.

Obstruction and an indirect free kick.

Fair point on the ball travelling the full circumference, I’d forgotten about that one.

Only if you hold your shirt with your hands to stop the ball falling down is it a foul.

Psycho Mouse is correct, it is obstruction as other players are prevented from playing the ball.

However the initial offence is a handling foul. Even if a goalie is handling the ball in the box and drops it into the shirt. Carrying the ball with any piece of equipment makes that equipment an extension of the player's arm (likewise anything thrown/kicked at an opponent is considered an extension of the hand or foot, so kicking the ball deliberately at an opponent is violent conduct as it's the same as kicking them directly). Even if the player has somehow not used their hands to open and close their shirt around the ball, the fact that the ball is inside their shirt is equivalent to them handling the ball.

As for the donkey, I'd agree with Statto's interpretation. IIRC the laws state that the ball must be kicked and move to be in play, and can only be touched once by the taker before another player touches the ball. The donkey kick fails as:

A) it isn't a 'kick' - the player is lifting the ball between feet rather than touching it in a direction with their foot
B) touching the ball with both feet is touching it twice, even if they can robotically touch both sides of the ball at the same instant, as it's touching two different parts of the ball
C) lifting the ball isn't moving it in a direction on the 2D plane of the pitch, which is what the law means by 'touch and move'

No need for bookings for unsporting behaviour; it's a technical infringement which gives up an indirect free kick to the defending team.

Any particular reason why you are not refereeing in the world cup finals?

The difference between being qualified in the laws of the game and being able to apply them at the highest level, at high speed and pressure.
