Right, I've found the link to watch Freesprts online if you don't have Freeview HD or subscribe to BT, Virgin or Sky. It's on TVPlayer ][sign in to see URL]. You need to create an account, simply enter your email and a password and you're there. If you're having trouble finding it go to ][sign in to see URL], choose TV Guide, then All Channels, then sport and scroll down to Freesports, the black and yellow icon.

Re: National League highlights on freeview

Freesports appears as ch 95 on my station list in Shirley - that’s through a standard tv aerial straight into the freeview tuner of my tv (i.e. not through any freeview box or other set top box) It doesn’t seem to be a HD channel on my tv.

The over-the-air tv schedule for Freesports often seems to be out of date. I think they tweak the schedule frequently as they secure broadcast rights to different events and it takes a while for the “tv guide” to catch up. As was mentioned earlier, the Freesports website shows the highlights show listed at 8pm tomorrow evening. Perhaps they only recently secured the broadcast rights (hence the announcement at the weekend)

Do you have an HD TV? We have an "HD Ready" TV, also running directly from a standard aerial, but the input on the TV is just the standard co-axial socket. There are several channels we are unable to view and they all seem to be HD. We don't appear to have a separate Freeview tuner socket on our TV.

I don't profess to be an expert on this topic, but I suspect "HD Ready" means your TV is capable of displaying HD from an external source (e.g. set top box, games console, Chromecast, Firestick etc.) However, the TV itself might not have the capability to decode a HD Freeview signal from your aerial - a limitation of the Freeveiw tuner device inside the TV.

My TV is a basic Philips HD TV but it's fairly new (18 months old) The signal from the aerial is connected straight into the TV via a standard co-axial cable (same sort of aerial cable that's been around for decades). There's only one aerial socket on the back of the TV. It can display all of the Freeview HD channels (i.e. HD versions of all the main BBC, ITV, Ch4 channels) as well as the standard definition versions.

Having said all that, I'm pretty sure the Freesports channel on Freeview isn't broadcast in HD. The picture quality certainly doesn't appear to be HD. Presumably the bandwidth required to broadcast HD comes at a premium which some of the "smaller" channels can't afford.

So perhaps the lack of Freesports channel is due to the signal strength in your area, rather than a HD limitation of your TV.

So what seems to be the conclusion is that the National League have sold their rights for highlights to a channel that is difficult for everyone to access, despite technically being free.

Great.

Highlights show seemed fairly good. Presumably it will be a longer show from next week as they'll have highlights from midweek and Saturday matches.
