Solihull Moors 2 Ebbsfleet United 1

Well that was a weird one! A game where the ref seemed to favour defenders over attackers, giving free kicks for the most innocuous contact and ignoring obvious holding, blocking and downright fouling by defenders. 50-50s seemed to go the way of defenders, even if the defender had blatantly committed an offence. Well, so much for the star of the show, whose decisions were equally baffling for both sets of fans, and that was only the first half! Second half he lost it completely, issuing a yellow for an obvious head butt and numerous other defensive infractions went unpunished.

Enough.

The game wasn't one of the best, we had the better of the first half with a beautifully created goal by Jermaine Hylton who wriggled his way through a couple of defenders and smashed the ball into the top of the net from four yards out at an angle. Second half we looked like we were still drinking our tea for the first 20 minutes when they hit the post and finally equalised. This was followed by a fair amount of Moors pressure, to no avail, with players passing when they'd have been better off shooting and shooting when they'd have been better of passing. Finally Maxwell broke the deadlock when his right foot near post shot was parried, came back to him and he buried it with his left peg. Overall a deserved victory, well won, but there were times when the ref, whose linos seemed anonymous, missed more than he saw. An ugly victory, but a victory all the same.

PS. I didn't intend to upstage Martyr, whose unbiased reports are well worth reading, it's just that I didn't see him at the game and when I started this thread his wasn't on here.

We didn't play great but ground out the result which is all that matters, nice healthy crowd of 1500, hope some are convinced to come back, good backing from the singers in the home end second half

1505 was very good gate and all credit to those who organised the stall and worked so hard giving out the complementary tickets.Exciting end to game with Luke's fine winner and holding on for the win. Our bench is much stronger than last year.Osborne Thomas and O Keefe. 3 great players to come on in second half.

The Ebbsfleet equaliser when it came didn't entirely surprise me as we'd had a couple of warnings early in the 2nd half with them firstly hitting the post from close range before (I think) Williams got in a last-ditch lunge to divert a shot wide. That said the free-kick that led to it was slightly unfortunate as I saw Storer get a touch on the ball first, probably too faint to be obvious to the ref.

Stepped up a gear once Osborne came on and a winner started to look much more likely. Great result particularly in view of the top four's struggles, nice to be looking for their results first rather than those of the strugglers.

Meant to add - great to see a bumper crowd not reliant on a Wrexham-sized away following. Freebies or otherwise, it still takes work to get people through the gate and (hopefully) hooked so well done to all involved in the promotion of this fixture.

Brilliant day for the club all round. Got chatting briefly to a Coventry City fan after the game who had picked up a couple of tickets in Mell Square who seemed generally impressed with the whole Moors experience and in particular by the fact that Tim Flowers is currently in charge. He mentioned that he may well return again in th near future , most probably for the visit of Salford at the end of November.
Here’s hoping he’s one of many!

Sorry, ad but martyrs post was first. But seems peeps replying to this one.
Totally agree with knives 're the ref.
Just gave unbelievable decisions and yes favoured the defender. How did there No 4
not get a red the amount of times he was spoken to...when others got yellows with even 1 warning.
Thought this week the subs paid off unlike at Barnet.
Nice to see a finish from Jammer. Good goal.
Deserved the points as Ebbsfleets were spoliers....hate to watch them every week.
Our keeper and back four were terrific.
Midfield worked hard and forwards kept going.
Well done to everyone.
