May the fourth be with you

Well, a goal two minutes into the game ultimately decided the game. Ironically, seconds before the Fylde keeper had tipped a Carter drive over the bar. And I’ll not mention the possible foul just before the goal.

At that point, I thought the game would either be a goalfest, or be won by the early strike. Unfortunately it transpired to be the latter. In terms of the game, a poor defensive show for the first 15 minutes ultimately robbed the hosts of a Wembley appearance. Despite the result, Solihull can hold their heads up high: not just for todays performance – when at times (particularly throughout the second half) the visitors must have felt like they were at the Alamo – but also for their performances this season. An FA Cup game against Blackpool, narrowly missing out against Arseanal, and generally fast and exciting football. If someone had offered a play-off defeat before the start of the season, we’d have snapped their hand off!

Oh well, Notts County next season! Real shame a founder member of the football league dropping out.

I’ll post elsewhere about the shambolic stewarding. So, without wishing to finish on a sour note, can I thank the team and management for an excellent season, and the (extended) toilet gang for the fun and friendship over this, and numerous previous seasons. #youknowwhoyouare! Hopefully we can all push on and go one better next season.

No way it was a foul in the build up to their goal. Moors had numberous chances to clear the ball, the Moors player stood on the ball and fell over allowing their man to take the shot.

In terms of the foul, I did say possible. Paraphrasing classic Wenger way - I didn't see it (I was at the other end). That said, didn't look so clear cut on the BT sport replay to me (then again, I was wearing beer glasses!)

The television replays did show that Storer stood on the ball and that was the reason he went down but to be honest we were lucky to not have had Daly and Wright sent off. TV replays showed it was a nasty kick to the head with the studs on Alex Reid and the commenters at first thought Reid had his head down but replays showed he didn’t and it was a nasty elbow from Wright that opened up their players cheek.

Fylde just looked that little bit more up for it in the first half and a lot quicker but everyone deserves to be proud of themselves this year for what has been achieved and let’s hope it’s rolled on to next year.

Unfortunate today but roll on next season. Players and management have been superb this season and have done us proud.

My worry now is if Walsall go down will they try and poach Tim Flowers!

Well that was a big disappointment, i've got a lot of time for Tim Flowers but today he made a big mistake changing the team and formation. We've played 433 all season so today plays 352 bringing in the permanently ineffective Vaughan and leaves our most effective player and outlet Hylton on the bench. Once again we give away a goal in the first five minutes giving us a mountain to climb. Second half we revert to 433 bring on Hylton and the game is completely different Fylde were knackered and Danny Rowe playing in midfield. Despite chance after chance the ball would just not drop kindly for us, on another day we would of won that game it just wasn't to be, we've had a great season and cup run and probably overachieved but these opportunities don't come along very often, next season looks just as tough if not tougher with Notts County, Yeovil, Stockport, Torquay joining us, you can see why the national league want more promotion places but the football league turkeys aren't going to vote for that

Agreed, Hylton should have started. Five at the back was negative and put them on the front foot, when we should have been capitalising on having a lot more rest than Fylde and playing at home.

The national league forum makes interesting reading.

I agree. Wrong system picked today. The 2 full backs, Vaughn in particular, didn’t get forward or attack down the line near enough as you should when playing 2 wing backs making up a 5 Man midfield. This left the midfield short at times. Not knocking Flowers though as we learn from our mistakes and there must have been a reason he opted for this formation.

Wow! A real bunch of charmers on that forum aren’t they just? Plenty of sour grapes on show mainly from followers of so called ‘sleeping giants’ who are absolutely seething that little old Solihull Moors apparently elbowed and hoofed their way to 2nd place this season. Patronising tossers.

Who cares what anybody else says? We watched out team battle and fight for an entire season and a playoff semi and ultimately finish exactly where they deserved.

We can moan about the ref today - who, incidentally, had an imperfect game and could have controlled proceedings far better - but ultimately we didn't create a clear chance. They had two in 10 minutes, scored one and narrowly missed out on the other. They're a !@#$, nothing club, but - as with both other times this season - we didn't do enough to deserve to beat them today.

I will wait for said mention of shambolic stewarding to put my full opinion forward, but needless to say there was no need for a certain former Redditch steward to be as disrespectful as he was this afternoon to an otherwise compliant bunch of fans who were having their afternoon ruined by the club's unannounced officiousness.
