Summer Business Thread - FAO POWERS THAT BE
So it is now the end of our season after, our valiant attempts on Saturday.
Here is a little squad overview that I have put together for Mr Flowers and the powers that be following what I have seen this season.
GK - Boot (Keep Boot, loan a reserve)
RB - Vaughan is not good enough. Williams is better as backup for the cb
CB - Daly and Gudger fine
LB - Reckord/Carline fine
CDM - Storer ok
CM - Carter. This signing should be priority, replacing carter due to aging legs
CAM - Ozzy fine
ST - Yusuf and Wright are ok however to challenge the top again we need better striker. Similar to che adams but our level
IN
RB, Striker, CM box to box
Out
Thomas, Vaughan, Blissett, Flowers, Murphy

Re: Summer Business Thread - FAO POWERS THAT BE
I’ve never been a fan of Tyrone Williams, he’s cost us a few crucial goals (both of them at Boreham Wood) and looks too much like a deer in the headlights for me. I think Vaughan with a full preseason with us under his belt will be a better player.
We need strengthening in CM becuase Carter isn’t going to last forever.
I’d like to see Hilton featured more. I fancy a Hilton/White partnership more than a Yussuf/White one.

Osborne was waving at the lap of appreciation on Saturday, assume it was waving goodbye.

Re: Summer Business Thread - FAO POWERS THAT BE
After the dissappointment I think that we can reflect on a truly superb season. The players and management team deserve great credit. We were so nearly there.
We have proved that we have a team to complete at the top again, and take the step up in the next season or so.
Surely the biggest priority is trying to get Jamie, Hylts and the manager to stay and give another year a go.
I think we need a new GK to avoid the comedy goals that were the curse of the second half of last season.
Dont think that I would replace any other players. Just need a bit of astute strenghthening in the middle and upfront.
Didnt see enough of Harry Flowers to form a judgement.
Think that Williams is a better Right back prospect than Vaughan. Played especially well in the first half of the season. Big, fast and athletic and should get better with the right coaching. Scored valuable goals to. Couldnt see Vaughan doing that.
As suggested, I think that we do need a box to box midfielder and that should mean Carts doesnt get overworked. We would also need a creative midfielder if Jamie leaves.
Thought Blisset was an interesting option but we did look a bit one dimensional with high balls into the box all the time when he played. Didnt know that he was only a loan.
Stenson looks good. He will have learned a lot from last season so Maybee he could get more of a chance next year.
Sbara always looked good to me. Didnt see enough of what he could do. Guess he will be back at Burton.

Re: Summer Business Thread - FAO POWERS THAT BE
I think a lot of people have formed a negative opinion of Vaughan based on the perceived unfairness to Williams of Vaughan being brought in and immediately replacing him, rather than particularly due to the football Vaughan has played. There's no way he'll be leaving as he's surely contracted until next summer having only just come in.

Re: Summer Business Thread - FAO POWERS THAT BE
I'd keep the squad as it is and add a few extra if needs be.
The only 3 I would get rid of
Thomas
Flowers
And blissett but he's on loan anyway.
will always stick up for Williams as he's an old school mate.

Re: Summer Business Thread - FAO POWERS THAT BE
Nathan Blissett was not a loan signing and already has a contract with us until the end of next season.
Vaughan v Williams. A tough one for me as I really do like Tyrone, but as an out and out right back, my vote would go to Vaughan. My only concern for me would be his disciplinary record.
Williams is more of a centre half than a right back and will provide excellent cover for Daly and Gudger.

http://www.solihullmoorsfc.co.uk/news/moors-snap-up-experienced-striker-2379125.html
This says it is a permanent deal until the end of next season so assume will be here. He is hardly the most graceful but scores goals so it a tough one. The striking options for next season will be interesting as all of them had their moments but not sure who is the best option which shows they are a bit hit and miss.

Re: Summer Business Thread - FAO POWERS THAT BE
Liam Noble would be a great signing for midfield if we could get him, another different type of striker to what we've got is needed, we may have a problem holding onto Gudger as he's easily good enough for the football league.
