Re: Racism in England game
Is it possible for a white person to experience racism beyond simple name-calling in a society run and shaped by rich white people?
Genuine question. For me it's like asking whether a straight person can suffer from sexuality-based discrimination, or a man suffer from sexism, but hey ho - everyone will have had their own experiences.

Re: Racism in England game
A few Yeovil supporters did not cover themselves in glory at Moors so I am not really surprised. Disappointed, and especially at our own level of the game. The two teams returning to the pitch together is the only positive I can find in this.
Our society seems to be more fractured than at any time in my lifetime and the need to find someone to deride is just a sympton of that.

Re: Racism in England game
What on earth will the FA do about Haringey v Yeovil?
I would like to think that they would order the game to be replayed at Haringey, behind closed doors, with a decision on that day, so no chance of a replay at Yeovil.
But not at all sure whether that will be the decision.

Re: Racism in England game
A statement from the FA reads :-
An FA spokesperson said: "We are deeply concerned about the allegation of discrimination from an area of the crowd towards a player during the FA Cup fourth round qualifying match between Haringey Borough and Yeovil Town, which resulted in the fixture being abandoned.
"There is no room for discrimination in our game and we are working with the match officials and the relevant authorities, as a matter of urgency, to fully establish the facts and take the appropriate steps."
...................
Obviously more to come.

I agree that this should be the course of action that should be taken.

Re: Racism in England game
As much as I would like to see Yeovil made an example of (especially as, browsing some of their fan pages, many of them seem to be totally in denial despite witnesses coming forward), I think the behind-closed-doors replay is the most appropriate and likely outcome.

Re: Racism in England game
Reports of it at the Hearts Rangers game today too.
Do you think racism at football is seemingly more common lately becuase it's at the front of people's minds and people are on the lookout for it; or it actually is a growing problem?

Re: Racism in England game
I'm afraid (no I'm not) that I'm in the tough love department. Yeovil should be thrown out of the competition, no ifs, no buts. I would feel extremely sorry for their genuine fans but the only way change can happen within the football community is if the community polices itself.
