Whatever that was, it's been taken down.

Not surprised its been taken down, basically it was about their record signing who’s left them - Ryan Croasdale.

All the other Fylde players agreed to accept a deal where they received 80% pay during Covid but he refused as it would cause him financial distress and that he would potentially have to borrow money to pay his bills etc. He was picking up 950 a week and the drop would have meant he would only pick up c750 a week.

The article was pretty strongly worded and titled “The Unacceptable Face of Football”

It also said that during the lockdown where the player would not be training or in any other activity at the club, he was offered a job to make up any shortfall but refused it.

That does look bad at first glance, but I think that if he was in dispute with the club at that time he would be ill advised to accept alternative work with the same employer.

From what I read the offer of employment was made before the dispute.

What I can’t get my head round, and tbf I don’t know the mans financials, is that he and his family couldn’t survive on 3k a month 😳😳

Back in my pre retirement days they kept revising our contracts because they wanted to tie us down and make sure we had something to hit us with during appraisal. The thiing that I objected to was a list of duties and then the last was "Do any other duties that it was reasonable to be asked to perform". If they are reasonable list them above.
So if he is employed as a footballer would it be reasonable to ask him to do duties as a groundsman, for example. I have my Union Rep hat on here and I think he has every right to say no.

You'd have to ask Martyr about losing a 20% chunk out of a high salary.

On the other hand the club could have laid him off or made him redundant instead of paying him 80% of his wages for doing nothing.

I understand what you’re saying Roj.

However, between the club and the government he’s earning c3k a month for doing !@#$ all, then the potential to earn another c1600 a month via the chairman’s business (an offer he declined despite his financial woes) He apparently then makes up any excuse not to train and engineers a move out of his contract in order to find another club.

I have mates that have been made redundant in the current climate and will do anything to earn a few quid a week to support their family.

To me this seems to sum up all that is wrong with football, especially at our level.

I don't think the club could have made him redundant, regardless of the rights or wrongs of what he subsequently did.
