Re: Darlington vs boston united
This reminded me of the FA Trophy game against Tranmere a couple of years back when the floodlights failed while Moors were trailing. The game was replayed the following Tuesday. It's a good job it was replayed... Firstly because I couldn't make the Saturday match but was able to get to the Tuesday match, secondly because, if memory serves, Ozzy scored a worldie from miles outside the box, and finally because we won! 🤩

Had a game been abandoned on 87 for weather, floodlights, or any other more mundane reason, I'm sure we'd be having this exact same conversation. It's just a really awkward time for an abandonment to happen. I do wonder why the referee couldn't have played three more minutes in this case after the injured player was taken away.
May have something to do with that it took an hour for an ambulance to arrive and that they never moved the player off the pitch until 11pm.
But they should of just kept the clock ticking. What's 3 minutes ffs.
Agreed that with the time it took an ambulance to turn up the referee had to abandon the game. Unfortunately Fildes he could not just let the clock run down as too many people watching the game who would have spotted the time.

Re: Darlington vs boston united
It didn't take an hour for the ambulance to arrived; it took an hour for them to finish treating him.
I understand the issue with the disruption and the players having got cold, and all that. What I don't get is why it would be totally off the table for the ref to speak to both benches and the home directors, just to say: "We have only a few minutes left to play here, would you like to go ahead since we're all here now and it will avoid the complications of an abandonment, and if you both agree, are the directors happy for it to continue to be staged until the finish?"
We may be under lockdown, but we aren't under curfew, and there were no spectators being inconvenienced at the ground. Surely just a decision for the clubs?

Sorry but I disagree. If the total waiting time for the ambulance to turn up, assess, treat and remove the player is going to take an hour, then abandoning a game was the right decision. All in told it actually took 90 minutes which is way too long. In effect the game would not finish until after 11.15. Whilst the referee may wish to consult with both the Darlington and Boston management team, no need to speak to the directors of either team.
