They're too busy watching Caroline Spelman's son and his chums getting into a steroid frenzy and chasing an egg.

Re: 2012/13 Ticketing Information

Some really interesting and insightful ideas. Plus some stuff from Roj.

Hopefully not restating too much of whats gone before. However, the views of what it means to a (admittedly higher tax bracket) income earner (hopefully staying that way) with two lads of student age living in leafy Solihull (alright – tree-lined Shirley to be precise).

Until a few years ago I used to bring my lads virtually week-in, week-out. The three of us got in for £8. A combination of them getting interested in other things including girls!), alongside charging for kids meant I stopped bringing them. As a result, the overall income to the club from the paraphernalia – drinks, food, etc – dropped. I still popped into the clubhouse for a pre-match half if I arrived in time, but that was it. To compare: I brought them now with me given the new ticketing prices (they are both students & non income-earning) it would cost me £36 in entry fees alone. You are having a laugh.

I’d classify myself as a casual attendee, rather than a committed fan (soz, pearl of the valley is the true love; this is more the local mistress!!). Sensible fielder (who is neither sensible nor a fielder) in my view has hit the nail firmly on the head. I guess I’m in the lucky position where a £12 is certainly not beyond my means. However, given we’re in the biggest recession for a lifetime (unless you are as old as Roj) I suspect I’m in the minority. Frankly, some of the stuff I watched last season was garbage (think I posted as much). When the team play well they are a joy to watch, and worth the money. When they aren’t – in all honesty I can watch better from a pub side free of charge (some of the play last year make the Keystone Cops look like CSi Miami). All in all, given the performances I attended - I’d average the season overall as poor value. So - personally - I see no justification for any increase. That said, the public transport I use daily is increasingly crap yet they charge me more for the privilege, so they are in good company. Problem is, attending football is more discretionary...

To be honest, a number of teams in the league for the forthcoming season look really interesting. Thats a double edged sword – on the upside may attract more casual attendees (me included); the con is Moors will (IMHO) have to put in far better performances more consistently to have a chance of surviving. Don’t want to be a doom merchant, but if they are losing at home week in week out the (already small) support will further dwindle. I can’t see it as anything other than fleecing the existing fan. Fully appreciate costs/inflation are rising, but what is the incentive for to increase the gate. It reminds me of Reggie Perrin when Grot had a sale increasing everything by up to 50%. Difference is, I thought that was intended to be a parody...

Its been suggested the “competition” is league clubs. Not convinced. I attended Highgate a couple of times last season. Whilst the football is absolutely of a lesser quality its still the crack of non-league. Given its walking distance from me I can also enjoy a couple of pints (lets face it, virtually everyone has to drive to Damson Park). Entry fee is £5.

So, for me, I’ll certainly be more selective and picky in my games next season (which I know will come as a blessed relief to many!). To date if it was a choice of a naff side at Moors or doing something else, I’d usually opt for Moors. Doubt it next season. So, that means on average the club will be £10 down. On the new pricing structure that means recruiting 5 new full-paying adults simply to be in the same position. Really interested in the marketing strategy that drives that one. I’d start praying for a good cup run! My worry is it could lead to a vicious circle.

Hope this doesn’t sound too negative. Just trying to be realistic. Still be checking out the results! And chances are will be along next season!

No that's a really good post Martyr. I particularly like the idea that you won't come as often.
Shirley postcode £18 I think.

Great post Martyr, you've hit the nail on the head. Let's say for instance that 20 people stop coming to watch the moors solely on ticket prices alone, which I think is a reasonable estimate, it would take 100 new fans to cover the cost of that 20 jumping ship.

Very badly thought out in my oppinion, irregardless of student and concession prices etc.

Just bringe along a utility bill and photo ID

Makes even a Ben Crawshaw idea look smart

I like this but would expect a roped-off area in the bar and room to park the Jag included in the top price

I'd go along with the rope bit. Could you lower your standards please and take Martyr along with you, he lives in Shirley don't y'know. If so I will valet park your Jag...somewhere, possible Chelmsley Wood.

Orginally it said on Moors Website

Concessions £6 (OAPs and Juniors)

Just looked again at it and it says

Concessions £6 ( OAPs, Students and Juniors)

Have the Board listened to the voice of the poor students?

From The Moors website:

quote:

Following a number of queries made directly to the club, Solihull Moors can confirm that student prices will be in force for home games during the 2012/13 season.

Students, on production of appropriate docuements, ie Student Cards, will be charged £6 per game.

Season Tickets for Students are priced at £100 if purchased after 21 July or at £95 if purchased on or before 21 July.

As NUS cards are sometimes not produced until September, Solihull Moors will accept NUS Cards for the Academic Year of 2011/12 until the end of September 2012.
