Tuesday's Man of the Match

It had to be Dean Spink ! How many times did he come on to the pitch ? I wish someone had taken a count of how many times the referee blew up for free kicks. From what I saw and from what I was told about the first half tactics, it was the bully boy tactics from Alfreton that kept up breaking up the play.

With regards to not bringing Ross on, with the tactics that Alfreton used I am glad that we didnt. If we had, then who knows what tactics Alfreton would have used to stop him.

Ok, it was not the greatest of games, but how many times have we come away from games with nothing when our efforts have deserved more ? I think the lads deserve some credit for carrying on until the end last night and getting a point that could prove crucial at the end of the season.

Re: Tuesday's Man of the Match

I think Alfreton are proof that you don't need to play good football to win games in this league, and are the kind of physical team that grind out results. Luckily for us the Moors did some grinding of their own to get the point.

I think we are quite a physical side ourselves but we haven't mastered the art - we're just physical enough to make sure that our plan A will always be ugly football by default, unless the manager says otherwise - but not physical enough to really compete in the league with long ball tactics like Alfreton do. I think that's why when we try to play passing football we tend to look good for spells. If only those spells could be maintained then we would begin to get results.

From what I've heard and read about the game last night it seems we were lucky enough to have one of those spells just at the right time. I think what Moors Hack has said in the past is right: this current Solihull Moors team have 20 minutes of good football in them, but the reason things so often go wrong is because the other 70 end up being awful.

Re: Tuesday's Man of the Match

I think the man of the match was Defo! the lino on the dugout side. There was no way he was going to put his flag up when Indy scored, if it was offside or not & who could blame him, after listening to the abuse, garbage & rantings coming from Nicky Laws mouth.( didn't these people learn any adjectives at school )good for you Lino.

It is tactics like the physical & long ball approach that managers & coaches like Nicky Law adopt, that stops fans watching football. The problem is we are now adopting some of these tactics, which is a worry, considering the talented young players we have on our books.Has for the 20 minutes of decent football we usually manage per match,I am affraid it was only 2 minutes in this match. As Statto says there was no lack of effort but there did seem a lack of technical ability to bring the ball down & string a few pass's together, but this may have been down to the instructions from the Manager & coaching staff,Darren got told off for trying a short pass in the first half.

To be honest I think I would rather us get relegated trying to play decent football than play this Nicky Law type football. But alas I can't see this happening & we will probably be involved in a relegation dog fight playing these tactics.I can't put my finger on why the football in this league is so poor,I have watched match's up to 3 divisions higher & 3 divisions lower & it always seems better to watch than BSN.

Which ever league we end up in next year our new club will be 3 years old & time to move it forward.I think the best way to do this is to move Bob upstairs into the Boardroom to thank him for his work & loyalty over the past 25 years.I would then like us to try & bring in a young coach such as Marcus Law,who's teams always try to play decent football & is a brilliant coach of young players, which I am loathe to say came from his work at the Villa Academy.

I have given you an applaud for that Keith. I have watched football from the top 6 levels so far this season. Although I have seen some pretty dismal sides (Leyton Orient have little idea of how to pass a ball, Darlington are the least confident team for good reason, clueless in attack, so well done to their 98 supporters who made the trip to Hereford even though they knew how poor they were, and also a mention in dispatches for the Man U fans who still think they are any good despite the evidence before them), but its only at the Moors that I have wanted to leave early. There goes the positivity again.

AGREE WITH MOST. well done who needs the other Forum, with honest people like Keith about, this is the place to be.
Yes the Snowman, if you read a quite appalling peice of SMFC update in last weeks Argus, was probably close to MOM.
But agree with Statts if this is a fight then we did keep going and am glad I was taking a few home with me, and I did sstop...best bit the last few seconds...
No thought they relied completely on ther England C International man Hearns and with 10 bullies and him they make a quite good fighting force., but sorry Im into total football at the min and this is not.
Agree with Keith, I was there First half Stapleton or was it Midworth, anyway in a LB position, played a short pass to a team mate, and honestly I could not beleive it Adam Rachael went mental with him, telling him it should have been a long ball down the wing...

Yes RoJ its very strange.I have watched good football this season from Brighton & Hove Albion (league 1) Kidderminster Harriers (Conference Premier) Nuneaton Town (Southern Premier) Bury Town (Southern Div.1 Mids.) & also Step 5 side Barwell (Midland Alliance)

I have seen a lot more Conference North matches than any other football this season, but I am struggling to remember a side that was that impressive, has far as good football was concerned . Wish I knew the answer to it.Perhaps its the tactics & coaching in this paticular league.

I couldn't agree more. As I have said in the past, Bob has been competent with limited resources but he has lost nearly everyone's support. A fresh face is probably the best way to push the club in a new direction and begin to try to market the club to Solihull. With a competative season or a good cup run then who knows? But barring a lucky draw or two I can't see it happening until the club changes its attitude.
