Realistically.. Can we stay up?
Very very poor performance tonight, no pace, no ideas and no creativity at all. We couldn't hold the ball in the middle, Baxter launching it as soon as he has it to an helpless Dapo upfront on his own against the large back 4.
Sterling played like a one trick pony, Regan was anonymous until the sending off although it looked like a 50/50 to me.
Im now very worried, we have made this far harder than it should have been,
Playing like we did tonight i don't see us getting anything off Aldershot, Tranmere and Macclesfield. York have hit form and have a cup final so they are on a high.
I do wonder if Liam has any idea around tactics? Tonight wasn't working from the off and yet we didn't change it until 7/8 minutes left.

Re: Realistically.. Can we stay up?
We can and should stay up.
Realistically we have to beat York and get something against Macclesfield and Eastleigh.
If we can somehow beat Aldershot and Woking lose this weekend that should just about see us through. We'd be 10 points in front of them with 15 to play for.

Re: Realistically.. Can we stay up?
I'd much rather be in the position that we're in, having points to spare on the board, than be in form but scrapping to get out of the relegation zone. I don't think it's as bad as people are making out; we've played excellently on the road of late, even if the last couple of home performances have been disappointing.
As for the Charles-Cook incident, it didn't look that bad from behind, but if you're going to connect with another player and injure them with a flying foot, you should expect to be given your marching orders. As always, the ref had a much better game than people will make out.

Crumbs! I must say, not much disco football on display tonight. One can only hope that the lads remember how to make em scream come the weekend.

Re: Realistically.. Can we stay up?
Not able to go tonight but must say I'm shocked at the comments.
Teams go down on current form and we are bottom of form table. Maidstone are top on current form.
Out of the current bottom four York are in top 6 on form and they have just signed an ex England goalie and look likely to survive.
They play us and if they win....we are looking like the ones to drop into relegation zone....
I hate to say it but from looking safe a couple weeks ago it looks bad. This scenario always happens.....
Ps
Physco, Staying above Woking won't be enough if York continue to win...it's NFU. S'PORT. WOKING + ONE OTHER..

Re: Realistically.. Can we stay up?
Just had a look at the games sitting in my Condo. Both Woking and Torquay can get 70pts...so we need 4 to survive on g/diff or 5 York well 70 or 73 beating us !!!
We need draw Sat. Draw at Macclesfield.
Vital win H v Eastleigh and Guiseley we may be ok or else it is on tv as the decider...

Re: Realistically.. Can we stay up?
I'm not usually one to be critical but that was about as poor as I can remember us playing in recent years - certainly need a bit of a re-think as in the second half it just seemed like endless Baxter kicks giving them pocession back. With regan suspended, surely need to look at 2 up front and going for it a bit as Dapo can't do it without any service.
I hope we can stay up but with teams at the bottom all winning and hitting some form, even that magical 50 figure looks a bit short with it looking like 2 places up for grabs with Yorks improvement.

Re: Realistically.. Can we stay up?
Was a very disappointing performance yesterday. Why are we constantly booting the ball up field from the keeper!?
We do not need to do this. It's been discussed many a times here surrounding booting the ball in the air. I thought that was knocked out of us a couple of month back when we started playing it along the floor.
We have players that are good with the ball at their feet, we need to play the ball on the ground.
The subs came way too later aswell last night, it was very frustrating for the home fans with sarcastic cheers when Andy came on.
Best part about last night was the smell of the burgers!
Roll on Saturday!

Re: Realistically.. Can we stay up?
First point is that our current points total and goal difference would have been good enough to stay in this league in 7 of the last 10 seasons. So chances are we've already done enough to stay up.
Second point is that of our remaining 6 games, there are two against teams (Macclesfield & Eastleigh) who have nothing left to play for. The other 4 teams are all in with a chance of promotion or relegation and need the points - you could tell that Torquay wanted it more than we did yesterday. So I think these two games are the likeliest source of further points - in the same way that York won at Macc last evening.
We'll end up comfortably safe. Stop worrying!!
