Re: Workington

The point I was getting at,is that McPike,Gardner & Edwards have all started at least 4 games & had plenty of chances to show their striking ability, whereas Dempster as only made Cameo appearances,so has had little time to make an impact on a game. The time he has been on the pitch,he always seems to show some class.

Re: Workington

I wouldn't say he was necessarily showing class, but his pace makes him difficult to deal with for some defenders and he moves well off the ball.

If he had the supply he might be quite effective, but you could also say that about Edwards if we put more crosses in. My solution would be to sign an out-and-out winger (would probably have to be on loan) or play a more tactical variant of the hoofball we're sometimes subjected to, using Jake as the target man and Dempster or Gardner running off him. I'm not the manager though so we'll have to see what the next few fixtures bring.

Re: Workington

RoJ, I've been there on more than one occasion: I also saw the England under 23s play there and saw the Heathens play Bratislava (I think) in the Inter Cities Fairs Cup. In the early seventies I went to see the Heathens beat Middlesborough in the last game of the season, which they succeeded in winning, needing the win to stay up. I can also remember a Boxing Day standing at the back of the stand, drinking scotch out of a whisky bottle and sharing it with a copper who was on duty.

Belated respects to Gil Merrick who was one of my heroes.

What a looooooooooong strange trip it's been
