Get Behind Liam!

I cannot believe that there are people calling for the managers head after just 4 games. The reason we are still in this league is largely down to him.He has had to face very difficult circumstances at our club so far.Ok its not been a brilliant start but the last 2 games we have played a lot better. We should have beaten Barrow and got at least a draw against Halifax anyone at the games could see that.If that had happened we would be 1 point behind Tranmere, and it easily could have.Darren Carter is playing well and helping our new players to settle, his experience is key at the moment.Joel Kettle is playing out of his skin and the enthusiasm from the players is there to see plus we have main players to come back from injury including Jermaine Hylton and if he hits form who knows what could happen.Liam will be more aware than anyone that results need to improve, but putting posts on here saying he should go after 4 games is in my opinion ridiculous.Give him and the team support and he will get it right.

It's not after 4 games, it's after 31 in which we have only put 34 points on the board and it has been getting progressively worse as I pointed out before: First 11 games, with mainly Marcus' team, 15 points; next ten games 11 points, last ten games 8 points.

But if the first 27 mattered you would have been calling for the manager to go during the summer.

Liam's objectives last season were to (1) reduce the playing budget and (2) keep us up. Both of which he succeeded at.

And you should expect points per game to reduce if the quality of players is lower, which seems to be generally accepted across various threads on here.

How many points should we accept to lose by reducing the budget?

Don’t forget we only just survived last season and if we’re not careful we could lose our right to be disappointed at relegation because we’ll just ‘accept’ that’s what happens when you reduce the budget.

Of course the first 27 matter if only to illustrate the decline. So, how long do we wait, bristolbear, another 15 games? That would give him a full season's worth of games and what if there is no improvement? So, let's say that if 19 games into the season we haven't got 22 points, which was the situation when he took over, would that be the time? We have seen the quality of the play and the quality of the players, with few exceptions, decline. At what point do we say "This experiment isn't working"? Do we wait until it's too late? As for the injured players coming back, they won't be match fit so, do we then give another half dozen games to get up to speed?

I don't think it is an experiment. We have the players that we have because they're the ones we can afford, not because we're trying to see if we can succeed on the cheap.

Also, as every bookmaker in the country is expecting us to be relegated this is something that we're already aware of so the disappointment is happening now. If we do go down it will be what we always thought likely. But if we stay up we'll be celebrating something unexpected.

And I don't know how many points fewer we should expect as a result of budget cuts - probably depends on the extent of the cuts. You shouldn't be comparing Liam's results against the gashead's results, but against a realistic expectation given the constraints he is working under.

How sure are we that there have been significant budget cuts?

I'm not sure this was ever stated explicitly as an aim by anyone official. It's just assumed to be the case because certain players have moved on - allegedly for more money - and other players have largely come in from below.

Is Keith Bertschin still in his role as First Team Coach? He can't come cheap. Jermaine Hylton and Darren Carter were playing full-time professional football last season. They can't come cheap. We also seem to have a lot more players in the squad than we had at the beginning of last season. Is it a case of a vastly reduced budget or a slightly reduced budget being spread more thinly?

We don't have any evidence for any of this. Is the club really saving that much money that we should appreciate finishing dead last just to keep our finances afloat?

Point being, we don't know the exact constraints that anyone at Solihull Moors is working under.

The reason the bookies are expecting us to be relegated, and have since before the season began, is that bookmakers study the stats and make their judgements on where to pitch their odds according to those stats. Last twenty games of the season, 0.95 points per game; last ten games of the season, 0.8 points per game.

If you know for certain that we are paying all we can afford to players, please illuminate with actual facts because as M00R5 points out, the evidence for budget cuts is vague to non-existent, all supposition, whereas we could all see the massive increase in attendances last season and despite the ground improvements, one wonders why, if we want to stay in this league, we are supposedly on the lowest budget as our turnover last season must have been the highest the club has ever achieved.

I see the point your making clive, and i'm not making excuses for him,but it all depends how you look at things, the circumstances at the time, and how you see the future progressing.I see it the same as bristol bear, and think Liam did well last season to keep us up.You have to take into consideration that he came from 2 leagues below into a situation that was at best turbulent and one that even marcus was uncertain and unsettled about before he moved to grimsby, and struggled to move up 1 league. It took some guts and determination to see the job through and he will have learned from it.He has had to rebuild the squad and I don't think he has done a bad job with what cant have been a massive budget. Therefore I believe he deserves and has earned a clean slate this season, and should not have to face people wanting him to go after just 4 matches into the season. If I remember rightly there were plenty of people who thought we weren't going to survive last season and he came good.Looking at it another way what other manager in their right mind would consider coming to our club if they read posts as unfair and negative that have been put on by some.We have to choose our mood and be positive and get behind Liam and give the guy a fair crack of the whip.

I don't think I've been unfair. Unlike some people posting on this forum I have tried to include readily available statistics.
