Re: Yates gone
Good luck to Mark.
As mentioned by John B, I cannot begrudge him a three year contract with a Football League team. Although that is now twice in two years that we have had a manager move upto the Football League, it still remains rare for a Football League team to appoint a manager from a non-league team.
Mark - Thank you for everything you did last season, installing belief in people at the club. You, the rest of your team and the players performed a miracle that will be talked about for years so from the bottom of my heart, thank you and good luck.
The King Is Dead. Long Live The King.
So we move on and look for another manager. Will Tim Flowers fancy the job? Him and Gary Whild working in tandem? I would be happy with that.

Re: Yates gone
Yip, agreed. In the fickle world that is football management, you can't blame him for cashing in when his stock is high. did a first rate job keeping the side up last season - I suspect most of us thought we were dead and buried around Christmas - especially with the Richard Money situation.
Good luck to him - however, being the eternal pessimist, be interesting if he is still in a job at Christmas...

Re: Yates gone
When Mickey Moore left 7 years ago he was replaced by his assistant, Marcus, who then went on to lose the first seven games of the season but given time and a free reign produced the best football played in my 20 odd years of following The Moors. I am a firm believer in continuity and feel that, if available, we should be offering the job to Tim Flowers, and if history can repeat itself, in five years time we should be knocking on the door of the Football League. We should not be despondent or pessimistic regarding the coming season, we should be optimistic, we should get behind the new management team, whoever they turn out to be, and look to a bright future. A successful manager will always be poached by a higher league team, that's the nature of the business we are in, but given our advancement over the last few years we should be able to hold our own and progress to the point that managing Solihull Moors should be an ambition for an ambitious manager.

Re: Yates gone
Disappointing news but half expected he would be poached by a league club after what he achieved at The Moors last season. My biggest concern is that Macclesfield have lost a lot of players close season and Mark will undoubtedly look to recruit players he knows and believes can do a job for him. Don't be surprised if we lose some players to them. Just hope it's not another Braintree when the Cowleys left and took a no of key players with them and Braintree couldn't turn it around and were relegated.. It's been far to quiet and from a no of small sound bites ive heard the club has no money to spend on improving the squad. Another roller coaster ride of a seaon will be upon us before we know it. Re: Yates gone
Absolutely comical. I fear now that we will be back to square 1 like the start of last season. I would congratulate mr yates.YES he did an absolutely outstanding job in keeping this club in the division we are in. But why jump ship after just over half a season? Money? Stability? Because its a football league club? He could of bulit something here we could of been the suprise package next season. But now i fear we will be in another relegation battle again. Feel sorry for the hardcore supporters who travel home and away every week.

I've underlined the bit where you've answered your own question...

Agreed.
Stability - Mark has been given a three year contract which I would imagine is very rare in that division (out of the 24 teams in League Two, only one manager has been with the same team for three years). I doubt very much that he was on a three year contact with us.
Money - I would not say that is the major driving force behind his decision, but he will be on more money now.
Ambition - Mark feels that he deserves a job in the Football League having managed twice before in the League. He is aged 48 years old now and who knows how many more opportunities he would be offered in the Football League.

Re: Yates gone
Full time employment with a EFL club v part time NL club?
No competition I'm afraid.
