Re: Fans forum

One question I'd like to ask, though I can't be there, is something along the lines of the following:

You were successful at Oxford United in turning around a club with an established fanbase and excellent facilities that had found itself in distress and arguably playing far below its level. While this is a great track record and experience to have, how do you propose to go about a seemingly opposite task at Solihull Moors? That is to say, what is the plan to grow what is quite a small club for the level it is playing at, which still had quite a low profile in its community - and how do you propose to take long-term fans on that forward journey without making them feel pushed out or daunted by the change?

I spoke at some length , to Daryl Eales, before the game at Orient , last Tuesday...

He is expecting the " Supporters " to expand the fan base , with some " Fresh " ideas. He can only do do much , on the money side, for new players / better Stadium facilities etc

I would say the vast Majority of Moors Supporters , live in or close to Solihull. Hopefully this changes , so more Supporters live in other areas, too . !!!.

I don't expect the new Directors to hang around too long , if indeed the Fan base cannot increase , in significant numbers.

Harrogate FC have done wonders - in 2011 , they were attracting home gates of 180 to 200 ( Just 5 Season Ticket Holders ). A very interesting article about them , in today's Times Newspaper.

Except that's demonstrably not true. A quick look at the league stats archive on Stalybridge Celtic's website shows clearly that the lowest average attendance Harrogate had was 295 in 2010-11. That year was something of a blip too, as was 2009-10. Every other year they were averaging closer to 400 or more at the very lowest.

Yeah it’s claptrap, Harrogate were always one of the more we’ll supported teams in that league, mainly because they always used to do quite well, famously finishing 6th every season.

On that note, can someone else please do a synopsis of the AGM on a separate thread ( working and unable to attend) so I don't rely this heresay clap trap as my gospel for this new and potentially important new phase. Thanks in advance (if someone's can)

About increasing gate receipts:

I would be interested to know whether the club given any concessions to certain employees of local companies?

I know I have seen an armed forces discount somewhere?

I work in the Police, and talk about the Moors to my colleagues - trying to get them down the auto tech to support the moors.

Most seem interessted until I tell them the ticket price which they find steep in the current climate.

Has the club ever though of contacting the Police Federation / West Midlands sports and social club to do an official offer? Its also free advertising too as it goes out on emails to the whole force and also on their website. It doesnt have to be much discount, but every little helps and may encourage people to attend? You would be surprised as to how many of our police personell reside in Solihull and the outskirts!

Also, is there anything to encourage the workers of the huge factory that is situated next dooor to the ground to attend?

Dont get me wrong, I will happily pay £15 a game - but even sometimes I have had to miss out becuase I am short one month.

Just food for thought for Darryl I suppose? The board however may have different feelings!

All good points - Our prices are comparable to the other clubs we are trying to compete with - also to note - a season ticket works out at £10 per game and Kids under 11 go free so its pretty reasonable for the entertainment you get. Cheaper tickets for 11 -18s also I belive. The Club runs at a loss I would imagine and dropping ticket prices has been done before but it hasnt led to a sustained attendence increase. However you are right to get new fans and reward loyal fans is a good idea, and a tough balance to get

I agree - I think the season ticket is absolutely superb value for money.

However, most people who work any sort of shifts cant get to every game and therefore it just isn't a viable option to spend a couple of hundred up front for a season ticket they may only be able to attend 10 games or so.

I think it would be good for the club if they could start infiltrating some of the big companies sports and social clubs with advertisements of discounted ticket prices, especially the Police who employ thousands in the midlands.

I do think that £15 isn't bad, but it can seem quite steep to someone who has never been to watch a Non league game before.

Plenty of clubs do a booklet of 5 or 10 match tickets for a set price per game, you’re free to pick and choose what matches you attend then.
