Stenson joins the Moors

Leamington FC today reluctantly allowed striker Matt Stenson to join Vanarama National League Solihull Moors for an undisclosed fee following his submission of a transfer request to the club late last week stating his desire for full-time football.

Leamington FC Chairman Jim Scott stated, 'Matt made a hugely impressive start to the season reflected in his winning the Vanarama National League North Player of the Month Award leading to an influx of scouts watching our games and additional media interest. Solihull Moors made an offer for his services six weeks ago, which we turned down and Matt also stated his preference to remain with us. However, late last week he had a change of mind and handed in a transfer request advising the club that he did not want to miss the opportunity of full time football at his age of twenty-five.

Solihull came back with an increased offer and the Board of Directors have generally been of the view that we will never stand in a players way when an opportunity for full time football beckons and in this case it has been Matthew's dream ever since being released as an 18 year old by Coventry City. Added to that it was clear that his recent performances had been affected by all the noise of stated interest in him from various clubs and so we gave him permission to talk with Moors. They agreed terms and the rest is history as they say. We wish Matthew good luck and all the best in his new venture. Should he be very successful then we might get some further financial recompense from a decent sell on clause.'

Manager Paul Holleran added, "I am delighted for Matt that he is being given the chance to follow his dream of full time football and will watch his progress with interest. He will always be welcome here. His departure means that an opportunity now exists for Anthony Dwyer, Connor Taylor and Colby Bishop to make their mark within our team"

Except for the first time they turned the offer down.

I am of the opinion Moors do need another Forward " option ", depending on the make up with the teams we play / it is also good for competition !...

At the end of the day , goals scored , is very important , for success.

Assume Sweeney won't be returning to Moors then. Looks like he's found his level banging the goals in for Hednesford so perhaps the loan move will become permanent.

I think Sweeney should be given another go, if his bang in form for Hednesford at the end of his loan we should give him a game or two to see if he can bag a couple of goals. If not then loan him back out or make it permenant.

It's a nice dilemma to have, a far cry from last season! Our strongest formation seems to be starting with 3 forwards, with space for a couple more on the bench. Then it becomes a matter of keeping 6 forwards happy with enough game time - hopefully some good cup runs, plus a few injuries and suspensions will help!

More concerning for me is the fullback positions. Given that Jamie Reckord is prone to picking up suspensions, some additional cover in that area would be welcome - Carline does a decent job there when called upon but beyond him, we don't have much cover.
