Gambling on TV to be curtailed

Nice that we are being protected from Ray Winstone's tedious adverts on TV (etc`) during the matches.
Cannot express highly enough how dreadful the need to bet on football, rather than enjoy football in its own right I find this pernicious trend, so well done.

Yes this is excellent news. I also welcome the eventual banning of gambling advertisements on shirts and in stadiums.

I think the banning of gambling sponsorship in football - when, rather than if, it comes - will be as huge a sea change moment as the ban on tobacco advertising in motor racing.

I do not think it will have a major effect, however by not offering live prices (ie Player A to score next) it will reduce the number of reminders for people to put bets on.

You can still go online onto a betting website tho and it will tell you an inplay price their. Will inplay betting be stopped online then?

No, but the constant drip drip of temptation will be taken away.

Bookies know that many of their punters are - to some extent or another - addicts, and play the psychology of addiction to their favour. Less destructive on a grand scale than if Ray Winstone was popping up every 5 minutes at half time to remind you to shoot up on heroin, but playing with the same psychological impulses. Which is a shitty way to make money out of people.

get in on it!
4/1
this is the ceiling of betting limits. They can concede this but profits will rise and the limits on machines in shops will not be regulated.
smart bet chums, bone china, apples and stairs, pony and trap get on it ...

Yes you will still be able to go on-line to do your best, but the constant reminders prior and at half time will be removed.

I wonder if the ban will extend to radio?

In answer to your other question Fildes, no they will not stop in-play betting as they make too much money out of it.

The industry is proposing these measures because they know there is growing cross-party support for far more stringent legislation.

Let's not kid ourselves that they've had a sudden attack of collective guilt.

I welcome anything that combats the normalisation of gambling; however this should be only a first step and needs to go much further.
