Solihull 2-2 Barnet

Not so much a game of two halves – more one of ¾ to ¼!

Roughly midway through the second half – after Barnet scored their second – my good friend commented that Solihull could be playing until midnight and still not score. At that point I could do little but agree.

As far as I can recall, Barnet scored with their two attempts on goal. The first – inside the first five minutes – came courtesy of a slight deflection after some comical defending. The second – around the hour mark – courtesy of a defence parting that Cecil B DeMille would be proud of!

To be fair, Solihull provided most of the attacking threat throughout the game. For the most part it felt like despite all the huffing and puffing they would never score. Compounded by a propensity to deliver generally poor crosses into the box against a team who must have been reared on ‘Land of the Giants”! That said, one Carter shot has still probably got the crossbar wobbling.

The game turned roughly halfway through the second half, when the visitors were reduced to 10 men. Two yellow cards in the space of a few minutes saw the Barnet midfielder dismissed. No complaints – indeed, the first yellow could have been a red for studs up in my opinion.

The dismissal seemed to incentivise the hosts, who finally pulled a gaol back with about 15 minutes to go – a relatively straightforward close range tap-in. It was all one-way traffic from then on in, with Storer heading home deep into injury time to earn Solihull a well-deserved point.

I was a bit disappointed in Barnet – appreciate they are not having the best of seasons, however felt like they were winding the clock down after the first five minutes!

Good to see a crowd in excess of 1,700 – although despite the home advantage felt a bit flat to me (Bard notwithstanding!).

And a big well done to whoever it was with the Wales flag in the corner of the ground - Cymru am Byth!

Pretty good write up Martyr. I thought one of the crucial changes that happened after the sending off (which I missed at the time) was that the ball seemed to have fallen down out of the sky onto the grass. Our substitutions worked giving fresh impetus to the attacks.
One blemish was the rag down in the corner. No matter how hard I tried the gaudy clash of green and red just kept catching my eye.

I can only imagine that this was part of a wider outreach initiative by the club.

I enjoyed the game yesterday. Thought Barnet defended pretty well but we were more than worthy of a draw. In the scheme of things, it was definitely a point gained.

Oddly I too enjoyed it. We were well worth our point but we should have led at the end of the first half. Near miss , clearance off line then hit crossbar. We found ourselves two down but kept playing, both ways, neat football and the airiel route due to our players strengths. It's got us to the top of the table and pulled two goals back yesterday. So stop moaning about it.
Thought the usual suspects outstanding didn't hear the Mof M announced ( nor the 50/50draw either) but I hope Storer won both, just pipping gudger for me.
