The stewards made a bad call there, despite them having a generally successful day.

It is not their call to make. They just follow orders from the people above them.

Re: Solihull finish second!

My understanding based on what I saw was this:

A) two people come over from the seated stand to complain they can't see because of people standing in the section in front of the toilets
B) at some point later, the steward instructs everyone standing at the barrier to move back 'even though it doesn't say no standing' - at one point he says it's because he needs a clear walkway but moving people backwards from the barrier makes it harder for people to pass by as it creates a crowd in front of the toilet steps

I can totally accept that in the delay between A & B, the stewarding team may have been asking for instructions from management as to what to do. I also accept that standing in that area does not appear on the ground plan when buying tickets. Equally, there is no physical instruction for fans not to stand in that area, no instruction has been given via the club before or since, and it's an area in which fans have been standing for the whole time the club has existed. Not to mention it's an area that will be very different next year, removing any issue altogether.

The whole thing just seemed totally unnecessary to me and simply penalised one set of casual fans who had chosen to stand in that area, some with their kids, in favour of another group of casual fans who had paid the same entry fee but decided they wanted to sit down and thought that entitled them to a perfect view of the pitch. Had some regulars like Roj or Martyr not been missing, they would also have been amongst the group asked to move. It had the knock-on effect of spoiling the view for the regulars who stand on those steps, as we now had a crowd of people directly in front of us, complaining to the stewards every time they came by. That sort of thing where the club appears to be bending over backwards for people who've never before shown an interest, especially at the expense of others, leaves a bit of a sour taste.
