Elections in Istanbul
I have just seen a car with more Turkish flags on it than I thought believable. I suspect that they were to celebrate the probable decline of President Erdogan. I've more than casual interest as a friend is about to switch from taeching in Bangkok to teaching in Istanbul. I know that we have something of an expert on here so would welcome a comment M00R5 please.

There's not a great deal I can say at the moment. The reaction from Erdoğan and the AKP at the moment is unpredictable. They're not in a healthy place as a party - a snap election is perhaps the most obvious option to purge his party of dissent, but they're currently in coalition with the ultra-nationalist MHP who aren't polling well. This is a unique challenge to the hegemony of Erdoğan and the AKP, and they've so far responded badly with uncharacteristic tactical mistakes. Rerunning the election being the first of those mistakes.

In that case we should follow Boris's tactic of failing to turn up to hustings, interviews, etc. I am genuinely confused by politicians at the moment. I heard Richard Dreyfus talking about Trump on the old Radio 2 today, describing Trump as "the symptom not the cause". Has that lowered the level of the conversation sufficiently Mouse? Randonising things.
