Tunnock's Cup Results

Some results from Round 1 of the Tunnock's Cup last night :-

https://spfl.co.uk/league/challenge-cup/results

There are a couple more Round 1 matches tonight, then the Round 2 matches next week :-

https://spfl.co.uk/league/challenge-cup/fixtures

Moors do not enter until Round 3, and in that round we are guaranteed to be playing a Scottish team. There is also a guarantee that one of Moors and Wrexham will be at home, and the other will be away.

Presumably the draw for Round 3 will take place shortly after Round 2 has been completed, the match taking place on Saturday 7 September.

I find this bit bizarre. Why do they feel it necessary to guarantee a home tie to one of the "English" entrants? I expect many Wrexham fans are just as keen on an awayday as ours are.

Re: Tunnock's Cup Results

A bit more detail :-

Third round: Saturday 7 September or Sunday 8 September, 2019

32 Clubs (16 ties)

2 clubs from Northern Ireland Football League (Ballymena United & Glenavon)
2 clubs from Welsh Premier League (The New Saints & Connah’s Quay Nomads)
2 clubs from League of Ireland Premier Division (Waterford & Bohemians)
2 clubs from English National League (Solihull Moors & Wrexham)
10 clubs from Ladbrokes Championship
14 winners from second round

Pre-draw to determine which country will be allocated Pot A, Pot B, Pot C & Pot D to avoid 2 cross-border teams from the same country playing each other. Pot E has 24 Scottish teams
....................
So the four non-Scottish countries will get pre-drawn to one of Pots A to D, with Scottish teams in Pot E. So say for example England is allocated to Pot A, one team, either Moors or Wrexham, will be drawn, at home, and then a team selected from Pot E. Then another ball taken from Pot E, against the remaining Pot A team.

Then Pots B to D dealt with in the same sort of way.

Thus all the non-Scottish teams in Pots A to D are guaranteed to have a Scottish opponent.

From Round 4 onwards, a simple draw, all winners from the previous round in one pot.

To ensure that there is not a match where there is two non-Scottish teams playing in this round, there is a selective way of doing the draw without making it too complicated.

Just like any other team we have a 50% chance of a home tie and a 50% chance of an away tie.

Indeed Statto.

If Moors are away I just hope the Scottish opponent are not too far north. There are teams north of Aberdeen that potentially could be our opponents.

Thanks for clarifying Statto. I'm glad someone understands what is going on.

Alas, Berwick's exit eliminates the prospect of an English club (guaranteed to face a Scottish club) playing an away tie in England.

Last night Brora Rangers 6-0 Aberdeen U21.

Brora Rangers are north of Inverness, and Google Maps says 513 miles taking 8 hours 41 minutes, each way.

Next week in Round 2 Brora Rangers play Cove Rangers. Where are they? On the outskirts of Aberdeen, a mere 432 miles away, taking 7 hours each way.

One of those teams is bound to be in Pot E in the draw for Round 3.

Are Berwick an English club any more than TNS are? They're completely registered in the Scottish system, after all, just as Oswestry Town were always registered in Wales.

Sure it's a Scottish club - I didn't suggest otherwise, and I don't want to get into jline-level pedantry, but the town and ground are indisputably in England. Just another pleasing quirk of this surreal competition.

Indeed - just as TNS are representing Wales and Wrectum England.

Incidentally, when was the last time Berwick won a game? They went into freefall to end up getting relegated, and I'm not sure they've started their Lowland League campaign yet.
