Is it the greed of the " Big Six " ?
£564 million broadcast contract offered by Chinese company PPTV , which the Big Six , discussed in private.
It could be seen there is no case for those elite clubs to be allowed to tighten their stranglehold over their supposed competitors.. The inequalities are great enough as they are. Even in Spain, they have come to recognise that the domination of broadcast by Barcelona and Real Madrid has been damaging and are looking to find ways to create a fairer distribution model.
Fantastic, that Sutton United are live on TV against Arsenal.
Don't forget Solihull Moors too !!

Re: Is it the greed of the " Big Six " ?
Unless you are a fan of the big six, I recon that most other footy fans find their domination boaring and predictable.
Personally, wish that they would ---- off and go and play in some sort of Euro league and leave the UK game to real clubs where the majority fan base are not glory hunters nor afraid of playing games that they might loose..
Shame some of the TV Companies haven't realised the Potential of televising live. lower league football.
Best wishes to Sutton -- Up the Moors!!

Theres a reason why it's not on TV very often.
If it made money and people wanted to watch it, it would be on every week.

With so much money sloshing around the Premiere League some should filter down all the way to the grass roots, the only people benefiting from the cash are club owners, players and agents. A weeks wages from one of them Prima Donnas would keep the Moors in business for a whole season.

Fair comment Psyco, but I recon that a fair proportion of the male population (and some ladies to) love football and would watch any game. Must be able to get higher ratings than some of the other crud on TV. Not talking BBC, but maybe some of the lower channels.

Seen a stat from the last round. Something like, 500k people watched Sutton v Leeds, 5.5 million watched Man utd v Wigan. Like it or not, that is why.

Re: Is it the greed of the " Big Six " ?
That's the pull of Wigan Athletic for you.
TV football is no longer special as the product is too saturated and isn't good enough to sustain its audience long-term. Five million is nothing special, but the enormous developing market in China is an opportunity.
For me I watched two items of football over the weekend. Sheffield Wednesday beating Blues, shared with a (former)mate who supports Owls, and last night I watched the National League round up as I couldn't make Saturday's game.
Contrast this with some wonderful live 6 Nations Rugby matches, a great annual tournament that showcases that sport and something special to look forwards to watching.

Also, if their market is outside of the UK, it'd never work. Nobody in the outside world is that interested in lower-end Premier League or Championship games, let alone anything lower.
