Solihull 0-2 Sutton United

Well, given the visitors lofty position, as well as being full-time, it was a likely game of hope over expectation. And so it ultimately proved.

The second - and killer - goal, as we entered the last 10 minutes summed up the difference between the teams to me. A long punt upfield by the Sutton keeper fell nicely to the visitors forward, who floated the ball neatly over the home keeper to seal victory.

That said, the first goal midway through the first half was entirely preventable. A poor kick from the keeper (not sure why it was played back to him in the first place) fell at the feet of the visitors midfield, who played a neat forward pass for the cross to open the scoring. Possibly a bit harsh, however I also thought Daly at fault in the build-up.

Sutton also had the ball in the net inside the first 8 minutes, which was ruled offside (couldn't see from the shed end). So you can't say Solihull hadn't been warned.

In terms of the game, on a positive note I didn't see a lot of difference in skill between the sides. Sutton - presume as a full-time side - were that split-second quicker in both defence and attack. And masters of the crafty nudge. The Moors were also pretty unlucky not to equalise in the first half - ball unluckily hitting the post with the (short? fat? dodgy?!) visitors keeper well beaten, and simply wouldn't fall for the home side. That said, a preponderance of long ball - mostly aimless - in the first half didn't help, although I thought some of the play in the second half was promising. Positives were the full-backs getting forward; down-side the strikers, who simply can't seem to buy a goal.

So, most of the entertainment was left to Roj, and his tales of the Sky box - which I can only presume is a euphemism for his, em, "waterworks". Enough said. And good to have the master-baker back and in full voice!

Final word has to be for the ref, who must be the best I've seen in many a long year. In total control throughout, and obviously understands the meaning of the words "free-flowing game". Enough said!

I thought you played well. However like us at Cambridge last week lacked that bit of class in front of goal.

Thanks Amber - best of luck for the remainder of the season.

Disagree about the ref. Sure he strutted around but I thought he was very inconsistent.
Some challenges went unpunished and then lesser challenges got yellow cards.
I thought another ref would’ve reduced them to ten men 2nd half, when Asante was through the last man defender had a large handful of his shirt before he slid in. Sure he reached the ball but he went through the man first. On another day it’s a free kick against 10 men.

I think most of us recognised that.
