Solihull 2-1 Ebbsfleet

A deserved home victory from a dominant performance.

On a lovely and unusually balmy Autumnal afternoon Solihull deservedly ran out victors against a mediocre Ebbsfleet side. A particularly dominant first half saw the hosts go in 1 up - and a cracker of a goal it was, turning the defender inside out before unleashing an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net. Indeed, the only surprise was the Moors did not go in more than one up.

H/t 1-0

After a several revelations half-time, learning Sensible Fielder wasn’t drinking (unheard of!) and H’s exploits in Villa Park (unsuitable for a family forum), the hosts again dominated from the off, hitting the post shortly after the restart. Midway through the game the visitors equalised, in what I seem to recall was their first real shot on goal. A freekick just outside the box (given by a ref who, if finickity, was fairly consistent all afternoon*) was poorly struck, however after a couple of rebounds crept into the net. Not sure if it was an OG. The play then became scrappy, with both sides guilty of reverting to long ball. However, the home side deservedly struck the vital blow on about 85 minutes – somewhat fortunate, again after a bit of ping-pong in the area, however the finish was first-class. Again, the hosts could have added to the scoreline, however seemed content to settle for the spoils, an in all honesty rarely looked troubled.

F/t 2-1.

An excellent crowd, albeit not in great voice, and no doubt swelled by the free NL tickets.

* despite blowing for every faint touch all match, seemed oblivious to some kicking in the Solihull box near the then.

I though ebbsfellt dominated from the start of the second half personally, they hit the post and came close a couple of times, the equaliser was inevitable.

Again, we’re good at getting a goal when we have to, and we’re were always going to win that game really it would/should have been more but we didn’t really seem to click in the final third but Jamma and Maxwell took their strikes well.

Moors got a good review on Small Heath Alliance Forum for this match, and it would appear that there were quite a few Bluenoses there.

Reading the Non-League Paper I scanned the stats on the referees in The National League. Ours got a very mediocre 5 presumably because he was so mean on his whistle, but the referee for the O's Hartlepool match managed to get even worse with a pathetic 4 having been bullied into sending off an Orient man by the opposition protesting. Are these the best we can find to referee at our level?

Ozzy was booked for being head-butted, we spoke to him afterwards and he said that the ref had told him he had booked him because he had started the rumpus.

I thought Ozzy's yellow was well deserved, bringing the Ebbsfleet player down in frustration then standing over him in a threatening manner, we'd be shouting for a card were it the other way round. It's probably just as well the ref didn't give a red for the headbutt 'cos, knowing our luck, Ozzy's may have been the same colour.

The more bizarre decision was when the same defender pushed Hylton off the ball, in virtually the same spot, and won a free kick.

Ozzy was brought down in the box and landed on top of the defender who then kicked out at him, and then stood up and was pushed ozzy backwards. And then got booked for starting it which he didn’t at all.

Ozzy was unfairly pushed off the ball, the referee either didn't (or chose not to) see the incident, the correct decision should obviously have been a penalty to the Moors. But, once he realised he wasn't getting the decision, Ozzy then brought the defender down and he was nowhere near the ball.

Jamey Osborne's magic and draws a lot of fouls from defenders which often go unnoticed or unpunished by referees. Ozzy gets frustrated and occasionally this boils over and he gets booked for a silly foul, which was the case on Saturday.
