True but in competions like this we should be resting our best players. I would understand if we had nout to play for in the league. but we are 3rd in the league and 3 pts off top. But i agree that this is a comp we could win. Just dont want it to affect our performances in the league.

Having recently done Barrow 397 mile round trip, Dover 410 mile round trip, Gateshead on a Tuesday night 425 mile round trip getting back around 1:30am. SOURCE car's odometer, I think I can say Hemel Hempstead on a Saturday afternoon is "virtually a local derby" at 170 miles round trip.

Probably one of the nearest games this season bar Witton and Chesterfield, it was also said tongue in cheek hence the big smiley grin at the end. emoticon

Without intending to sound negative, I think we have greater chance of winning the FA Trophy than getting promoted, so I'm happy to see us take the Halifax game seriously. I can't see us finishing top of the table, so we'd end up in the play-offs, which is a mini cup tournament in itself, except all the teams are good!

Of course, promotion would be fantastic, but if we started next season in the National League as reigning FA Trophy champions, I'd be very happy with that too.

We absolute should do our best to win the FA Trophy and get promoted. Losing a game like the replay could be a momentum killer.

This "concentrate on the league" guff is a trope imported from the higher levels of the professional game. It's nonsense there and it's nonsense here. Forgive those of us who like the idea of aiming for a Wembley trip even if it has a marginal effect on our chances of getting to take on Morecambe and Mansfield next season.

Happy with that draw, just need to get past Halifax first.

Serious question would you rather not us concentrate on the league and try and cement a playoff spot. I no i would.

No, I just want us to concentrate on the next game. So at the moment, I really want us to beat Halifax tomorrow and get to a stage of the FA Trophy that we have never reached before.

If we beat Halifax, then on Wednesday morning I will be concentrating on the league.

If we do reach the final of the FA Trophy, I do not think that have five midweek games between now and the end of the season will derail or affect our promotion hopes.

For me, success breeds success and with four of the top five from our division still in the competition, it would appear that others are thinking the same.

Re: THE DRAW FOR THE BUILDBASE FA TROPHY THIRD ROUND LIVE ON MONDAY

There's a lot to be said for psychological momentum, especially with the rush of winning cup games.

That said, the more games we play in quick succession, the more likely we are to pick up injuries and suspensions to stretch our small squad. Defensively in particular, we're screwed if we lose a couple of players.

I don't think the 'concentrate on the league' argument is a preserve of the Premier League or without merit; it's a matter of fact that more games will put players more at risk of burnout and injury. If a club isn't confident in the quality or depth of it's squad, I can see why focusing efforts on one competition over others would make perfect sense.

With the FA Trophy only being a few extra games and no other competitions ongoing (it's not as if we also have a European campaign on the side!) I don't think we need to worry too much about continuing to make headway in the competition.

Halifax are a bit of a bogey team for us so this may all be academic anyway.

Well said. These are definitely my sentiments, also.
