Yes that's the one Fildes. Very simply put.

It was the first time in over 100 years that the teams who were first and second at the top of the division had met on the last day of the season with the title still up for grabs.

Arsenal, having had blown a good lead at the top of the table needed to win by two clear goals at Anfield to win the title.

The story is also told in the Nick Hornby book, Fever Pitch, which got made into a film .

Absolute stonker of a game, why didn’t Barnes take it into the corner 😳😳

Agreed Griff. I think he saw that Kevin Richardson was barely able to stand on one leg so tried to go round him, whereas if he had just gone into the corner it would have been so different.

It got made into a film twice, even!

Didn't Hornby also write About A Boy? That also ended up being a Hugh Grant film, though I think it was quite different from the plot of the original book. Can't really get away with altering the results of a load of Arsenal and Cambridge matches to suit Hugh Grant, though, so I'm guessing the Fever Pitch films were pretty accurate!

Union berlin are quite simply terrible.

Let me down tonight. Had them to draw. At half time it looked like it would be!!

Ended up losing 4-0.

I think Union Berlin have been found out a bit. Direct football, playing for set pieces. It will only get you so far emoticon

I thought the first goal last night was one of the best I have seen for ages.

Lots of matches on BT Sport today, four matches starting at 2.30. pm UK time. And then starting at 5.30. pm there is Bayern Munich v Eintracht Frankfurt.

Also tomorrow, Sunday, matches starting at 12.30., 2.30. & 5.00. pm, all UK times.

###$ it. Its Better than watching repeats on itv of the 1990 world cup.

Some of the classic games have been good to watch as brings back good memories.

Chris kamara nailed it on the head yesterday. He said it's been good reliving some of the old games but it is also good to watch some football where you dont no the what the result will be.

The classic game on ITV on Saturday night is a league match from 1989 between Liverpool and Arsenal. Fildes - do you know how that one went?

Just watching now.

The quality of football really isn’t great at all.

Re: If you have BT Sport

The performance in the Liverpool v Arsenal game was not fantastic but it is the storyline that makes it is a classic, especially less than six weeks after Hillsborough.

Liverpool had actually produced a great performance three days earlier when they beat West Ham 5-1.

The fact that Liverpool could afford to lose by a goal and still win the title probably confused them and their mindset on how to approach the game (ie Barnes not running into the corner in injury time). They were also confused with Arsenal playing five at the back for the first time, when everyone assumed that Arsenal would go all out attack.

Some decent games last night. The Dortmund bayern game was immense. Yes it was only 1-0 but the intensity of the game was Brilliant.

A controversial var review that never happened aswell.
