Re: REFEREES AND VAR
I've not seen a simulation booking in a long while, come to think of it.

Trezuguet or whatever his name is didn't actually dive. But should of been booked for going down like he had been shot.

Re: REFEREES AND VAR
Burnley vs man United
Probably the longest var review in the history of var.
I counted 6 minutes.

Re: REFEREES AND VAR
I've watched at least the highlights of three classic Blues matches this weekend after falling down a bit of a YouTube hole.
2001 League Cup Final. David Elleray and his assistants make mistakes on at least one key match incident, arguably two. The clearest mistake is failure to award a Blues penalty for a foul on Andrew Johnson in extra time. The arguable one is not following up the first penalty decision in stoppage time with a red card for Igor Bišćan for his foul on Martyn O'Connor.
2001 Division One Playoff Semi-final Second Leg. Blues lead 2-1 on aggregate in stoppage time at Deepdale. After Stan Lazaridis' shot rolls along the goal line, Preston break quickly and the ball is played through to a Preston forward who is in space as two Blues defenders are occupied by the run of Mark Rankine. Rankine is in an offside position when the ball is played. The shot from his team-mate is parried and Rankine is then through on goal to tap in for 2-2 and extra time. At the end of extra time the game then descended into farce as the referee decided that the penalties would be taken in front of the Preston supporters rather than in front of an empty stand under construction as Trevor Francis believed had been agreed.
2011 League Cup Final. Very early in the game, Blues mount a series of early attacks and Bowyer is put through on goal. Gaël Clichy is stood directly in front of the assistant, clearly playing Bowyer onside by 3-5yds. Bowyer charges through and is clattered by the Arsenal goalkeeper off the ball as the assistant erroneously flags him offside, denying what would have been an obvious penalty and dismissal for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity.
For all the furore about how refs are worse than ever, the English game is struggling to produce quality officials, there is more controversy than ever, etc. how is it that I have been able to pluck 3 major games involving the same club from 10-20 years ago and find major refereeing mistakes in key match incidents in all of them? Seems to suggest that either refereeing errors have always been equally part of the game, or if anything things have actually improved as VAR would have caught all three definite errors above.

The 2001 incident was daylight robbery.
