Re: F C Halifax Town vs Solihull Moors on Sat. 13/3/21

Great progress....the manager speaks plain English...I understood every word of his very positive post match interview.

Why is that so important? Because if we the supporters can understand what he is saying, then so will the players through next weeks training.
I feel very optimistic that this squad will start to improve and collect points from now on.

Dreadful moaning Tyke commentary was the worst aspect of the game. I think they should recognise that they are talking to both sets of supporters and ought to be more even handed even if it against their nature. Really enjoyed our positve attitude and thought Ward had a great game, and yes I agree that so did Cranston even though he overhit several crosses, his desire to look forwards made a great difference. Hudlin worked harder than another striker during his very short time on the pitch than the one who played 90 minutes.

After the slightly dour and introverted Shan, it refreshing to see a manager being so animated and obviously trying to encourage and motivate the players from the touch line. A draw would have definitely been a fair result today. We were denied a couple of times by the woodwork and an unbelievable clearance off the line from the goal bound effort by the outstanding Ward... I doubt very much that Hudlin will sleep very well tonight reliving that point blank miss...

Lots of positives from that display. We certainly didn't deserve to lose, careless to give away a soft penalty but other than that, Halifax didn't threaten much.

Things that were pleasing to see:

- 2 up front from the start.
- Goal kicks going beyond the halfway line, rather than sideways out of the six yard box.
- Passes forwards that weren't immediately followed by a pass backwards.
- Ward playing well in a centre forward role.
- No arsing around with the ball deep in our own half.
- A focus on getting the ball forwards quickly and having plenty of Moors players in advance positions to use it, rather than an isolated lone striker having to hold it up and wait for support to arrive.
- A manager showing some passion and support from the dug out, rather than standing with his arms folded watching the game pass by.
- McNally did well given it was his debut for the club, playing for a new manager in a potentially tricky away fixture.
- Storer did a good job of dropping back into defence to cover for out-of-position defenders.
- As others said, Yates' post-match interview was an honest, plain English assessment of the game, pretty much word-for-word how I would have summarised it.
- If we had Sbarra, Osborne, Gudger and Howe available, we could dominate a lot of teams playing like this.

The negatives (not many to be fair):
- Rooney still looks pedestrian, even with a strike partner alongside him.
- Cameron still looks pedestrian in the centre of defence.
- Quality of delivery lets us down, lots of wasted chances due to overhit crosses or failing to beat the first man (Cranston in particular needs to improve his crossing and set pieces, it's the only part of his game that lets him down)

Before the match, I wasn't particularly bothered what the result would be, just hoped we'd show more endeavour, register at least double-figures for attempts at goal and have the majority of our possession in the opposition halve. It felt like all of those were achieved.

Transformation amazing. Well done Mark. Well done the lads. Well done the chairman for making the call.
Unfortunately about 3-4 weeks overdue to give a play off chance this year IMO.
Successful managers tend to keep things simple. Players in their best positions, play to their strengths. Build team spirit and confidence and get the players to enjoy their football. The new manager does just that.
Forever Moor... you summed up the previous manager perfectly. you can add baffling into the description.
Onward to next season. Agree 100% Bolda. Hope we can get Osbourne, Sbarra, Gudger and Howe back asap. With experienced Ward and tallent like Usher Shipway and Hudlin comming through, we could and should do very well.

Where is Shergar. Is he still with the Moors?
He looked like a really promising player when signed, but not heard of since?

Boris, what a great post. I too wondered that. I saw a video clip when he signed. Was amazed, so, yes where is he.?
Hopefully not made the same fate as his more famous namesake, and become the filling of many a Ginster, "beef & onion"...clearly the Magical Shan, lost his ball, for his number never to come out of the tumble was very bad luck.
McNally got the call, maybe the lost sheep of the family will be next..
