Re: Released and Retained List
For me
Rooney (age 34) always expected him to go - big wages and injured too much plus not a good enough return for a forward
Newton (age 31)great work rate but not enough goals for a forward so can understand the decision to let him go
Cranston (age 29)- believe he was injured towards the end of the season - good player - missed out due to Boyes good form after getting sent off

Re: Released and Retained List
No great surprises amongst those released, apart from maybe Cranston. We'll need to find at least a couple of left-sided defenders to replace him and Boyes and have competition in that position. Newton is the kind of player who gives 100% every time he plays, but doesn't have a prolific scoring record (pretty much what Stevenage fans said when he joined us)
I think it would be a mistake for Hudlin to move up as high as the Championship at this stage of his career. Another season or two at this level would benefit him. He's got potential, but he's not exactly tearing it up in the NL. He needs to develop the physical side of his game, and up his work-rate. If he does move on, then of course good luck to him.
I'd take Maynard back if he is available, a solid player who can play a couple of positions. Ideally we need to find another "James Ball", someone who is capable of playing multiple positions. If we'd had him on the bench on Sunday, it would have given us more options of attacking substitutions.
Anyway, I have complete trust in Ardley and his backroom staff to bring in players to improve the squad, and the board to provide the resources to do so.

Re: Released and Retained List
No need to drop anyone, Griff mate, we need cover/competition, im sure even with his age and injury record he does expect first choice at this level, but sure he understands he wont play ever week, I'd keep him no doubt, love him. He gets key goals, late winners.... but what effort. No defender is safe on the ball, and the style of play now means that's important. Still if Ardley brings in someone better, great. Hope he doesn't go to Woking tho. See Danny Wright has left Torquay for Havant & Warterlooville

Re: Released and Retained List
Don’t get me wrong Rich, I would like to keep Newts as cover, Danny Wright, as you say, is the perfect example.
My comment was based on Fildes saying he’d thought Ardleys excuse was utter crap. If Newts doesn’t want to stay because of playing time then he’s not going to sign a new contract, not much the club can do.

Good luck debating with Fildes, yes agree, Bolda, good shout, a James Ball type, or if not, the actual one.

He wasn't offered a new contract though. Just feels to me like this is another akinfenwa moment from ardley releasing a player a day after a playoff final. I'm not going to start criticising him again though. I just disagree with the decision.
Maybe I'm talking rubbish though.

Re: Released and Retained List
Least you have an opinion tho pal👍👍
As I said I would of kept him but I’m sure he and Ardley have had the chat and couldn’t reach an agreement hence he left.
So far Ardleys recruiting has been pretty good so hopefully he’s got a few little gems lined up🤞🤞

Re: Released and Retained List
.... similar to most other's no big surprises .... pleased Justin Donowa has been offered a contract .... perfectly hits the fast flowing football ethos .... I was aware from some of my "shareholder investment" contacts that Manager not too keen on Newts .... I similarly think he'd have much to offer .... left sided midfield, attacking midfielder, forward versatility options .... I'd like to have seen the last pieces of the "Great Escape Rose Coloured Spectacled Past Their Sell-By Date" finally moved on .... I'm aware 1 had another year so hoping it's peripheral and club captaincy is given tour our towering centre half leader for next season .... left side certainly needs bolstering ( I see Exeter have released former Villa U23 left back Callum Rowe ... which would be an ironically weird almost) as does our 'in front of' defence protection and creativity (without ref bating aggression) .... plus we need someone who can take free kicks .... and perhaps a attacking target ....

I would take in Tyrone marsh from boreham wood .Him and Dallas up front would be amazing
Midfield I would bring in a replacement if sbarra leaves like someone who is pacey up in the middle like for example Sam smart from Eastleigh
Bring another central defensive midfielder like Maynard who is out of contract
Extra striker :Josh Kelly from magpies
Left attacking back :Jamie reckcord
Players who I would sign:
Tyrone marsh (Boreham wood)
Josh Kelly (Maidenhead)
Sam smart (Eastleigh)
Lois Maynard (Stockport)
Jamie reckcord ex moors player
--- Let’s live back the memories 🔵🟡
Keep the faith.

Re: Released and Retained List
Hopefully we can get Tyrese Shade back, after his release from Leicester City.
