We had a decent spell for 10 minutes in the first half, but FGR mainly dominated us easily in the first 45. We looked really good for half an hour in the second half, as FGR struggled to deal with Dapo and Sterling together, but didn't take our chances and were punished. (I don't particularly remember the ref having a bad night, either.) The FGR performance was mainly good. A similar performance would have seen us beat Barrow and Torquay, but the opposite happened. I think the fans and squad alike now need to let the FGR game go and move on. It is neither the world beating performance nor the catastrophe it is being made out to be.nondisclosed_email@example.com (M00R5)Mon, 10 Apr 2017 19:55:31 +0000 Re: McDonald Out!https://bsolihullmoors.runboard.com/p30042,from=rss#post30042https://bsolihullmoors.runboard.com/p30042,from=rss#post30042MOOR5: We outplayed Forest Green , especially in the second half. Let's be brutally honest. I'm not certain that many of the players brought in post-Bignot would have improved last season's squad at all. Neyse, we can only wait and see what happens now. The team has put in some strong performances when confidence was high. I wouldn't be shouting from the rooftops about the FGR game because I think, if we're honest with ourselves, we only looked good in spells in that game. Nevertheless, there ought to be enough there to see us through, with luck on our side. We are all disappointed about Saturday and the players will probably be the most disappointed and hurt. I agree this 5 game losing run has been tough and not great to watch and has put us in a vulnerable position with only 4 games left. I think it has all stemmed from the FGR game and losing in the last second. I've watched every single one of Liam Mac's games in charge and its obvious that their confidence is shot at. They weren't all bad players before this run and they aren't all bad players during it as you don't become a bad player overnight. The calls for Liam to be sacked are ridiculous too. We have two games coming up in the next week so if you were to get a new manager then they would be in charge for probably the last 2 games of the season at a push which is stupid. We need to focus on Friday now which is a huge game for us now. If we get a win and then go to Macclesfield and get at least a point we might be able to start breathing easier! We need to get behind the team on Friday like we do when we play away. It is the same group of players who played Forest Green off the park in the 2nd half so their ability is there for all to see. I agree with other comments it's the no of games they have had to play as part timers in the last couple of months coupled with the injury and suspension of key players at key times. It was evident on Saturday that we sorely missed Liam at the back, we certainly do not have good enough cover and the club must recognise this fact if we manage to retain our status in the conference. Our support on Saturday was fantastic and we must create a superb atmosphere against York and get right behind the team. Survival is still in our hands and a win against York who admittedly have found some form in recent games will go along way to us staying up. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Moors on Tour)Sun, 09 Apr 2017 18:33:07 +0000 Re: McDonald Out!https://bsolihullmoors.runboard.com/p30023,from=rss#post30023https://bsolihullmoors.runboard.com/p30023,from=rss#post30023I agree with Keith 422 regarding the part-time/full time issue. I had not realised that it was 5 games in 15 days; and the fact that there has been a dramatic loss of form and confidence has to be connected. A lot of these players have been signed from lower leagues:it remains to be seen how many will stay at this level. With the benefit of hindsight, there has been far too many changes, in far too short a time scale. When we lost 6-0 at Harrogate last January, we didn't hurl abuse at Marcus and the players, we applauded them and reminded them of how great they had been this season. Marcus spoke about how this was a turning point in our season. Two separate points here. First, it's not fair to hold the club to pre-season expectations when we were mid-table for most of the season. None of us were expecting much in August, but the team proved to be good enough to raise our expectations far above instant relegation. Second the Harrogate 6-0 was in a very different context; a blip in a season of unprecedented success. This isn't a blip. The last few games, if not weeks (Woking away, anyone?) have been building up to this. It deserves to be recognised for what it is. I'm not going to offer an opinion on Liam McDonald. There's only so much he can do with inadequate players, and he doesn't set the budget. I wasn't able to make the Torquay game or today's game due to an impending family bereavement but having listened to the radio commentaries on both games the commentators expressed their surprise at how our defenders failed to spot runs and allowed free headers and shots that should have been snuffed out. That is the lack of ability to read the game mentally, but I also think that at this level, where most players are professional, the players that have come in are not physically able to compete. I also wonder at the bringing on of academy players when we are being tonked! We have lost 13 players this term, 6 of whom were brought in and then shipped out again this season plus another three sent out on loan!
