Re: Another passing away..
At the time of the start of the Falklands Conflict, Thatcher (and how come that word is not starred out when !@#$ is), was as at the absolute pits of her popular, and had totally mismanaged the policing of the South Atlantic, signaling cuts to the very small British presence with the recall of the supply ship. The !@#$ was however in her element at war as it suited her belligerent nature and at the expence of many Argentinean conscripts and British soldiers lives, a jingoistic wave of nationalism carried her forward.
The electioneering and therefore the voting at the time of the election hardly touched upon any other issue. Shame the electorate did not see her for what she was sooner.

Couldn't of put it better RoJ...one of the most evil woman of the twentieth century. Your probably right about Michael Foot, more of a Party man than a Socialist ,may be that came from his middle class ,Liberal Party beginning before being converted to Socialism at Oxford University. That could happen to our own Liberal supporter with the left wing nickname, but its no good joining "New Labour" if converted to socialism, its just another capitalist party, like a wolf in sheeps clothing.
To be honest until the human race start treating their own race decently, without greed, without fighting wars & treating everyone with respect , we will not be ready for real socialism .So we will probably be stuck in this capitalist jungle for about 2000 years.
OK Moor5 its time to sober up now,our future depends on you students.Looking at Troskys picture of five of the Moors left wingers ,I now know where Joel got his forum user name from.Looking at the picture they looked more like Dictators than socialists

Re: Another passing away..
Roj, your summary of the Falkands Conflict is spot-on. I had a friend who served in the Royal Navy and was part of the Task Force and his comments were..."I put my life on the line to keep that b*tch in power".

Just a socialist who would have spared us the misery still resonating from what the !@#$ inflicted upon the country.
(It would be a shame if football supporters can't share opinions upon other issues. You don't necessarily have to read them).

I was under the impression that he himself is not as extreme as most people believe, but he was under great pressure by Labour's far left activists, as well as Benn to put forward a particually extreme far left manifesto (the longest suicide note).

Re: Another passing away..
Yes we are looking at a period in British political history when there were marked differences, other than image, between the parties.

And Thatcher wasn't an extremist?
Since you're from Knowle you're obviously a stalwart of the bourgeoisie and your opinion is not to be trusted

The funny thing is, you can never really tell. Foot might have made an excellent PM. He may also have been as bad as Thatcher, just in the opposite direction.
I have to admit, it is fun to speculate though.
If Chile's democratically elected socialist president in 1970 had been allowed to continue about his business rather than having been deposed in an American-backed coup, would they have continued along their path of being the most advanced country in South America, or would they have collapsed under the weight of their own system, like the GDR?

Of course, what I was meaning was these leftie views wouldn't be reflective of your average Solihull voter (whilst leaving a little bait for someone to point out not all moors fans are residents of solihull!)
Now come on, don't tell me giving away our nuclear weapons in the early 80s was a good idea....and as for nationalising the banks
