Re: Brexit / Football in the UK
So much wrong in that.
For example "British born players"? Really? So all those who are Naturalised British will not be able to play for the Moors after Brexit?

Re: Brexit / Football in the UK
Fair enough, your opinion but I think the link between foreign players and non league football is tenuous at best. Majority of part time players are almost certain to live locally to the club. The money just isn't there to attract mercenaries, very much doubt we will see any change, unless of course, we get a couple of promotions.

Re: Brexit / Football in the UK
There are EU countries with foreign player regulations/restrictions in place. I'm very doubtful that foreign players in England have anything to do with the EU.
Not to mention the work permit rules in place for non-EU players.

Re: Brexit / Football in the UK
Don't know how any EU country could have restrictions on EU players. It would be illegal. I suppose they could set limits to a minimum of home trained players but any discrimination based on where the player was born or hailed from within the EU would breach EU law.
Still the original point is a weak one. Looking at our current squad, they are almost all from the West Midlands, Adi Yussuf hails from Zanzibar but via Leicester so that would count for nothing re the EU debate. Across the whole league I can't think of many EU players. Andrade at Boreham is Portuguese and I really can't think of any more.
Like much of the Brexit debate this is tied up in rhetoric and catastrophisation. It has little to do with the EU Brexit debate but I would be in favour of more domestics players in squads, this is more of a premier league debate though, any rules set out intending to address this a side stepped by, for example, bringing in a young Danish kid at 13 so he counts as home grown.
Rather than blaming the EU the way we have sold off football clubs to the global billionaire class to run as their own corporate brand fiefdoms was always going to create an alienation and damage the production of young local players.

Re: Brexit / Football in the UK
Presumably leagues are free to have restrictions on non-EU players. Italy limits clubs on the amount of non-EU players that can be signed. British work permit rules preclude signing any non-EU players who aren't established internationals.

Re: Brexit / Football in the UK
I have more things that concern me about Brexit than the composition of football squads at Prem or National level. If the economy is as *** as it seems it will be the appeal of playing here may slip below signing for a club in Sofia or Cluj.
But on the plus side Cameron's gamble to unite the Tory party seems to be going well.
