Re: TV Political Debate
I hope that the election result is not as depressing as the Manc derby's. Symbolically the third party (Arsenal) fell from the race today, so a straight Lab v Lib contest remains perhaps.

If boring is the opposite of entertaining then you have missed the point: it wasn't an entertainment. I really dislike the term boring as a condemnation of anything where we are expected to look and listen and form an opinion: how can that be boring? You are using your faculties, looking for nuances etc: just stick to soaps if you don't want to think.
No, I don't believe I did miss the point...I didn't like the format, the presenter, the random butting in, the ban on audience reaction...and above all nothing particularly interesting was said by either of the 3 guys. I was geniunely looking forward to watching it, but was losing interest half an hour in..
I imagine SKY in particular will do a much better job.
Clegg did well, but I'm surpised by the size of the effect it has had on the polls, I can only conclude that most of the country had never heard him speak before

Re: TV Political Debate
If you reacted in a negative way for those very good reasons you were actively engaged in criticising and therefore you were not bored, possibly you were disinterested due to the format. You just hit a spot that rankles as I dislike the bored word and its adolescent connections, which I take as a shorted version of "I can't be arsed to think".
The negotiated rules did make for a sterile atmosphere. There may as well not have been an audience. I haven't been to Question Time but did go to a recording of Any Questions last year and the contract with the audience was quickly established, applause was given and the chairman Jonathan Dimgleby conducted the whole thing with a touch of humour. That was missing, so Clegg's more natural approach stood out from the controlled stuffed shirts.
The theory goes is that Clegg is not tainted by the history of the two other's and the disdain that politicians have earned.

Re: TV Political Debate
Something is missing from this general election, the one thing that was always predominent in all the general elections since the 1950s. Can RoJ or anyone of you other political animals tell me the answer.
The first person with the correct answer, will qualify for a pint of ale/coke at the Kiddy pre season match on 13/07/10

Considering the amount of complaints they got about bias from their referee and coverage, it looks like they actually did worse.

Worthwhile choice?
I've already voted via post, and I have to admit that my vote was negative and tactical rather than inspired by a belief in any of the parties.

Correct I owe you a pint.
Any idea why they are missing. ?
It may be because of American TV influence, Party workers losing interest or just cost cutting.

Re: TV Political Debate
I think someone realised it actually broke advertising/littering laws because they never asked if they could put them up and never took them down after.
These days parties get around them by having them on the driveways of people who support the party. In student areas this doesn't work because drunken young people steal them.
