Liam Daly joins Barnet

https://www.barnetfc.com/news/2021/january/welcome-to-barnet-liam-daly/

Daly joins Tim Flowers and Gary Whild at Barnet. Decent signing as I still think he can do a job at this level and had been playing well for Gloucester City at the top of National League North. I thought there was a bit of friction between Daly and Flowers which led to Daly requesting a loan move and then ultimately being released from the Moors... evidently not!

Maybe it's been put to bed. Or maybe the rupture was more between Daly and other players. We don't know.

Daly will always do a job and put the effort in. Hope it works out for him and Flowers at Barnet. He will certainly want to prove that the National League North is not now his level.

Perhaps it was a contractual issue with the bean counters. Maybe Daly wanted a longer contact extension than the club was prepared to offer him... Pure speculation on my part of course.

I could see something like that being at the bottom of it. Daly is a big character after all.

Good Luck to him, it's unfortunate it ended the way it did here.

I bumped into Gaz Whild a few weeks ago and joked about TF being linked with the Gloucester job and how that would go down well with Dales.

Gaz reckoned it was blown out of proportion and that TF and Dales were fine with each other.

Good luck to them both, Barnet looks a right mess to sort out😬

From Daly's perspective, any hatchets are easier to bury if they are accompanied by a step up the league (and presumably a pay rise!)

I recall some interview comments from Flowers around that time, referring to moving on players who don't want to be at the club. I suppose that doesn't necessarily mean there was ill-feeling, perhaps just a difference of opinions.

Anyway, I hope Daly does well. He's a player that seems to be popular with the fans at every club he's played for (except perhaps Kidderminster!)

I wonder if he'll ever get that testimonial match at Moors that should have happened at the end of last season? I hope he does, and I hope it isn't played behind closed doors!

As soon as things get back to what they were pre pandemic then I'm sure he'll still get 1.
