Solihull Moors and local politicians

I've just noticed that the club are promoting a Q&A with Andy Street via their social media.

Obviously there was the slight fiasco earlier this season where Julian Knight mugged himself by seeming to gloat about getting invited along to the King's Lynn Town game. It's understandable that he was there in his DCMS select committee capacity, but he didn't explain himself at all on that and it backfired on him.

I don't see that there is any such justification for holding an event with the Metro Mayor during the election campaign. It is a form of promotion for him in a constituency he will be looking to bank votes from in what's likely to be a low turnout election. It's clearly helping and favouring him over the four other candidates.

I didn't vote for Andy Street last time, and he won't be getting any of my preferences this time, but I actually think he's been decent and has stood up to his own party in government in the interests of the West Midlands. I wouldn't hate it if he was re-elected. However, I don't see Solihull Moors' place in this when there are four other candidates, only one of whom has comparable reach. It's especially unfair in these circumstances where the three candidates with fewest resources will struggle even getting leaflets out due to COVID restrictions and certainly won't have local sports clubs rounding up Zoom audiences for them.

Yes I am in total agreement with your opinion about Andy Street's forum at Moors. I also share your thought that it would not be a diaster if he was re-elected as he seems to have done OK, however I won't vote for his party. I did wonder if general questions about the two level society which vaccination passports appear to worry Conserative backbenchers might be an arguement against other aspects of their policies. But I do not wish him ill.
This post will swiftly be moved to Jottings as it has nothing ti do with Moors, but maybe neither does the forum have any need to be at Moors.

Wasn't sure which forum to post it in, as it's a club issue but not related to the football itself. Will leave that down to your judgement.

I agree with MOOR5 and RoJ. My first thought was that yes this is unfairly promoting one candidate over the others, which might even be in breach of electioneering rules. For those reasons I will not be taking part.

I agree with MOOR5 and RoJ, and with
Ojiveojive.

Absolutely no need for the club to highlight an event such as this, unless there are also events for other candidates.

Not impressed with the hair-splitting going on today.

"This conversation with the incumbent mayor in the middle of his election campaign is not a political event nor a conversation with him as a candidate for office."

Presumably it's going to be an hour of him talking about his favourite Dapo Afolayan goals while munching on psycho mice?

I'm hopeful it's an event set up for him to unveil plans for a new Moors stadium, situated in the heart of Solihull with excellent public transport links, a nearby stop on the new metro tram system, ample car parking, league-leading corporate facilities, and a state-of-the-art playing surface...

I’d rather not get munched on by Andy Street for an hour tbh.
