Match officials in this country

They aren't very good are they?

Come on lets be honest some of the decisions in the premier league tonight are just completely baffling. What the hell is var for but yet they still make the wrong decision. And then you get the likes of Peter walton on bt sport and dermot Gallagher on sky sports just agreeing with everything.

Enough is enough. Something has to be done with officials in this country.

I'm sorry if I upset the likes of statto and moor5 in this. I'm sure you are good referees but I'm mostly on about var in this

I think that if anything VAR confirms how good the linos are. Yes there will always be contentious decisions, there always have been, but in the overwhelming number of contentious decisions, not all but the overwhelming number, VAR proves the officials' decisions to be correct.

Did you not see the united goal that was clearly offside last night? Did you not see the penalty Chelsea should of had and the ref gave a Fk to Leicester instead. Did you not see the man city red card. Did you not see the red card Brighton should of had.

It was a poor night for the officials last night. What about the other day where the ref bumped into a player and gave liverpool a Fk for it and then they went and scored.

The red card for west ham a few weeks ago when he kicked the ball. The ref goes to the monitor and still gives a red.

I've watched alot of pl football this season. Var is not fit for purpose imo.

But you forget about the hundreds and hundreds of cases where the officials are proved right. What might be obvious in one person's view isn't to another, making the decision contentious. I'm not saying that every VAR decision is correct, I'm saying that at least 95% of decisions are, and the contentious ones stand out among the hundreds of decisions taken over a weekend. Without VAR some goals would have been allowed and some disallowed erroneously and there will still be contentious decisions that involve VAR which have different views from different perspectives. We can all pick out individual decisions that we disagree with, and I think the Chelsea/Leicester no penalty decision was correct, but the minutiae is not what matters, what matters is that the technology gives the officials an opportunity to review their decision and it is either upheld or overturned. I still believe that the majority of decisions reviewed are correct. What I would like to see is the referee review each decision for himself, not take a decision from the VAR ref.

I'd like to be able to hear the conversation between the var referee and the match referee.

That would clear alot of things up. Because at the moment we don't know what is being said.

i do agree that the standard of match officiating isn't the best but with all the criticism they get, will officials in the lower league want to be try and move up the leagues with all the criticism they receive from pundits and fans

I would also like the VAR process to be more transparent. All to often it is a commentator telling me he has disallowed it for reason x. Why can't we hear this from the VAR people. Why does the commentator get to find out first

Didn't watch the game, but my understanding is the main issue is a penalty given that was either outside the box or simulation.

I've looked at it back and I think the player has dived. Bobby Madley does not have the benefit of replays or TV angles, and from his perspective he has seen the contact outside the box, seen it progress into the box, and seen the player go down. I can completely understand why it was given, and the question for me is why all of the stick is given to the referee for making an honest call rather than to the Morecambe player for throwing himself to the floor, or indeed to Newport County for failing to score a goal over 120 minutes of a major final.

He also missed a clear stonewall Penalty for Newport in the first half.

The commentator said it was almost gbh and that if you did that in the street you would be arrested.
