Re: Match officials in this country

The commentator is talking !@#$. Seen it back now and the goalkeeper catches a player in the head when the ball's so long gone it's practically out of play. He's hardly tried to batter him.

By the letter of the law it's a penalty, and I've seen plenty given for players getting cleaned out by goalkeepers, but I don't think I've ever seen one given for a goalkeeper catching a player in the head after he's already nodded wide. Doesn't mean they shouldn't be, but it's an understandable decision from his perspective again. If the assistant sees it, he's also not going to signal for something happening in the middle of the box right in front of the ref.

I think the commentator had more of a shocker than the referee.

Potential Newport penalty - For me this is a penalty but no card for the keeper. If the Newport player had taken a shot or made a pass anywhere else on the pitch, and then is caught late by a tackle, it would result in a free kick and that is what should have happened her.

Morecambe penalty - What was the Newport defender thinking? Why give the referee the opportunity to make a decision? I have no problem with the foul being given but would be interesting to hear the conversation between the referee and the assistant about where the foul started and ended.

Lee Hendrie said something along the lines of it was assault.

The Cheltenham town manager on the sky studio was the one that made the gbh comment.

The comments about it being GBH are wildly over the top. No I would not expect someone to lead with their fist at someone in the street, but then I don’t worry about someone slide tackling me every time I walk to the shop 😀
