Solihull Moors 2-0 Southend

Well, I don't think you'd see a more comprehensive 2-0 scoreline anywhere. If the score was double - or even triple - that, it may be a more accurate reflection of the game.

Sarfind were a bit of a curates egg. I though they looked half decent in midfield, although lacked virtually any attacking threat, and defensively naïve. So, overall, pretty poor. That said, it takes nothing away from Solihull, who looked superior in every department.

For the record, a goal in each half -
a OG on 29 minutes and a penalty by ball on 54 minutes. Other than that, I'm not going to go into detail of the game, but suffice to say that in addition to the two in the net, by my reckoning Moors somehow missed four excellent chances (OK, to be fair the cracker from Osborne which rebounded off the crossbar with the keeper stationary is a bit harsh to call a miss!)

Seem to be bringing it together nicely at the moment.

I have to mention the ref. Suspect Ojive was the only person in the ground to be happy with his performance, as he blew for every petty infringement going. Including booking away manager Phil Brown. Perhaps next time he officiates he can have a sandwich board on with "Look at me" writ large. The only one minor redeeming feature was he was at least consistent. However, in my opinion, he made no allowance for the conditions - including a sodden pitch - in a game played generally in a good spirit. Given his petulance for brandishing cards, how we finished with 11 on each side is beyond me (OK, technically the Shrimpers finished with 10, having a man taken off injured and - having used all 3 subs - finished with 10).

Good away following from Southend, who made a good noise. However, I do need to get my ears checked as - somewhat baffled - I couldn't understand why they were chanting 'we are going up' shortly after the second goal. That is, until someone pointed out it was actually "We want Browney out". And a nice bit of gallows humour at the end with the "You must be crap, only beating us 2-0'!

As I said to you on the walk from the ground, I didn't feel the ref had a bad game or particularly got any key decisions wrong. No nonsense in putting Phil Brown in the book either.

Very professional performance today. The first goal was always going to be key against a team like this, and we got it before we really started going through the gears. Agree that it could've been a lot more on a different day.

I'll be feeling better about where the team is at if we come away from Wealdstone with a win on Tuesday. Looking forward to getting to a first midweek awayer of the season! At the very least, it's looking as if we have that home mojo back.

I actually thought he was a pedant and as you say he blew for every petty infringement going, but let a few overenthusiastic challenges go, in my opinion. He was consistent though and I was informed beforehand that he was card happy and he didn't disappoint in that regard. I got the impression he used the cards like a cattle prod to reinforce his authoritarian bent.

Well those away supporters have had a lot to put up with over recent years so who can blame their chants as they are now threaned with another year that could end in relegation.
I don't know if this is actual the case but Mr Ref reminded me of a PE teacher with a class that he did not like much so blew his whistle so very frequently to get their attention.
Positive points were obviously the win, the clean sheet and the introduction of both Jamie Osburne and Kyle Hudlin late on,. A better defensive display than last week too. I can count 3 more chances that would and should have been taken whilst our goal was not really threatened nor seriously worried Boot.
Kyle Storer should benefit from being rested I hope.
Up with the play-off pack again.

Thought we played well on the whole although struggled to get a foothold in the match early on. Was puzzled by the team sheet, not expecting Maynard to play as part of a back three with Ball sitting deep in midfield. It seemed to work ok though as the game wore on. Slightly concerned about the quality of finishing, given that we relied on an own goal and a penalty to beat a poor side at home. I don't remember either keeper making any significant saves, apart from their keeper tipping that Cranston free kick onto the bar. The wayward shot that broke the light in the Tuck Shop end during the warm up was an omen of things to come. Still, it's a clean sheet and another 3 points so job done.

I thought the ref was poor, far too quick to get his cards out. There were three bookings within the first 30 minutes in what was in no way a dirty game by either team

Going by the Southend United forum, it seems their chairman went into the away stand in the second half to a less than warm welcome from their long-suffering fans, hence the abundance of stewards and police down that end as he was escorted away for his own safety to the chants of "w*nker... w*nker..."

I saw him more as an Art/Pottery teacher myself!

Thanks for clarifying. I assumed the chants were aimed at the beleaguered Mr Brown again..., either that, or they'd spotted Roj in the seats!!

Pretty comfortable win in the end, should of had 1 or 2 more tbh.

I thought the ref did ok, personally disagreed with many a decision but given the laws these days I think he got most things right🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Some strong performances out there although against average opposition, cant think of anybody who was poor.

Nice to see Ozzy back…..

Brilliant to see Jamey Osborne back! Interesting two away matches coming up now against teams lower down the table.

Ex Moors player Tahvon Campbell is second top scorer in the league with 8 goals for Woking.

League positions don't seem to make a lot of difference to how we do against others at the moment (Dover 0-0 lower, Boreham Wood 3-1 higher) but our own form should be improved by the possibility of a full list of players available. Indeed Jamie Osborne's shot against the bar in his few minutes on the field shows what he can do and what we have missed.

Just come across this photo from a Southend fan. Obviously not against it, but just wondering what the significance of these banners and posters in the area around the ground for the two lads that went missing is?
