Wigan 0-0 Solihull
A crowd of around 300 away fans saw Solihull gain a very creditable 0-0 draw with the League 1 pacesetters in the FA cup. Indeed, aside from the first 10 or so minutes at the start of each half, you would be hard-pressed to say which were the league side. Truth be told, the game - played in almost constant drizzle, and with a relatively sparse home crowd in attendance - was hardly a classic, with few actual chances of quality. That said, Solihull create the best chance of the game - a fingertip save by the home keeper to tip over the bar; although Wigan did carry the likelier threat, with Boot making a couple of decent saves.
So, the replay is a week Tuesday - unfortunately I'll not be able to attend.. (cue cheering!).
And in response to the chant: I'm pretty certain the answer is Rog; however he didn't have a drum!

Re: Wigan 0-0 Solihull
We shall all miss Martyr at the replay, except Sensible Fielder who as his carer during the game in Wigan will be happy to be released from the barrage of ridiculously trivial questions, like can you drink on a train, do I have to sit back to the engine, are we there yet, will I be allowed to bang my drum, etc, etc.

Re: Wigan 0-0 Solihull
I think I should clarify my previous post. I meant, some of you might miss Martyr next Tuesday week.

Re: Wigan 0-0 Solihull
I can confirm that some of those were real questions 😃
I think the Trump-supporting West Virginian lady probably tops Martyr for most bizarre experience on that train, though.
Can't disagree with the assessment above of the game. They probably edged each half after starting brighter each time, but we largely matched them. They looked like they might only need the one chance, as the late offside showed, but we did come closest with Howe's header being barely tipped onto the crossbar. They had one trickle onto the post, too.
Booty put in a great account of himself, though I will say that almost all the saves he pulled off were ones we'd really expect of him. All shots from distance at comfortable heights.

Re: Wigan 0-0 Solihull
You would never think we matched them or offered any sort of threat after seing very brief highlights on the BEEB.
Focussed only on Booty making a string of saves.
Looked for all the world as though we were on the end of a spanking and only still in the competition by the skin of our teeth.

Re: Wigan 0-0 Solihull
I think the problem for the director will have been that we had possession and attempts, but our chances weren't of the same quality as the Wigan ones shown.
No excuse for not showing Howe's header, though.
Will be a different game at Damson Park. They could turn up and blow us away, but I think it's more likely we're in for another Blackpool or Rotherham night. There'll be a real buzz for it, unlike the funerary atmosphere at the Hi, I'm Dave Whelan on Saturday.

Re: Wigan 0-0 Solihull
The non-league paper were also guilty of over-playing Wigan's performance. Despite using the headline "Moors are match for League One High Flyers", they then go on to state "The home side - who'd lost their last four matches in this competition - dominated from start to finish." What utter rubbish! The match stats they listed in the same report were:
Shots on target: 3 (Wigan) - 1 (Moors)
Shots off target: 2 - 2
Corners: 9 - 8
Offside: 1 - 0
Fouls conceded: 7 - 6
Yellow cards: 2 - 1
Red cards: 0 - 0
Hardly the stats of a dominant Wigan performance.

Re: Wigan 0-0 Solihull
As they were 2 leagues above and top of that league, they flippin should have dominated from start to finish.
On paper it was by far the toughest draw of the round.
I think our performance was pretty dam good and worthy of a far better review than we received.
Maybee the paper relied on wigan to provide the report rather than actually sending a reporter.
As for the BEEB, particularly dissappinting that they couldnt have provided a more balanced report.
If those stats are correct they speak for themselves.
I guess it an easier story to support their selected highlights.

Re: Wigan 0-0 Solihull
The lazy journalists see 0-0 and think there will have nothing to report about. I saw a game full of tension and with good chances for both teams. That the Wigan fans were so disinterested didn't help.

Re: Wigan 0-0 Solihull
I'm not bothered by the reporting, just enjoying the fact that we managed what Pep's then quadruple-chasing Man City couldn't in 2018 and leave the DW intact.
