Re: Marcus Bignot and others on gardening leave

It's not just homophobic, it's sexist. It employs all the worst stereotypes about "miserable lesbian women" who need sex with a man to stop them being so uptight. Yes, he hasn't straight up used an anti-lesbian slur, but it isn't witty at all. It's just employing the laziest of lazy cultural assumptions about lesbian women for a cheap shot.

If he was 12, you'd call it immature and say he needs to be educated better. From an adult who has worked in football with women as long as he has, it's as pathetic as it is infuriating. There's no excuse for it. No wonder she thinks he's a prick if he has any habit or history of making similar cracks.

Re: Marcus Bignot and others on gardening leave

For clear disclosure here, I would regard Marcus as a friend of mine.

The full written reasons of the case can be found on the FA Website (Click HERE).

The wording states that "the burden of proof is the balance of probabilities". Maybe someone cleverer than me can confirm, but if this had gone to court the burden of proof would have been for him to be found guilty without reasonable doubt.

What amazes me is that if the manager from technical area is saying something to occupant from the other technical area, how has the fourth official not heard this exchange ?

For me the punishment looks a bit of a cop-out with it being the minimum punishment plus one game.

From reading the report I am amazed that Marcus did not know the sexuality of one of his players when he was in charge at Birmingham City Women, which may be a blow to his defence.

Hopefully this case will not prevent him from future employment.

If it had been a criminal case then it would have had to have been proven beyond reasonable doubt, but civil courts work on the principle of balance of probabilities. This is because criminal cases carry much more serious sanctions relating to the loss of individuals' rights and liberty/ies.

Having read the evidence, it seems to me that given Tottenham could provide consistent witness testimony from their entire bench, and from the analyst having had it come through on the audio feed, and that Marcus could not provide a single witness from the BCFC bench to back his account up, that this is a case likely to be accepted as proven beyond reasonable doubt anyway.

Good point about the fourth official -- perhaps they were concentrating on something else or simply weren't sure after the fact.

I'd be surprised following this if Marcus Bignot works in the women's game again any time soon.
