Solihull Moors 1-2 Aldershot

On a bitterly cold night, two out-of-form teams failed to warm the cockles of the heart - from a home-side perspective at least.

The game was delayed by 15 minutes due - I believe - to a delay in the Aldershot coach arriving. Not as through this seemed to affect the visitors - who promptly rushed into a 2-0 lead, scoring 90 or so seconds apart in the 14th & 16th minute respectively. Albeit aided by some shambolic defending by the hosts.

The game was then delayed a further 6 minutes as the ref and fourth official changed places, presumably due to an injury to the former.

The rest of the first half played out pretty much with Solihull attacking, albeit with no end product, and a marginally improved defensive display.

H/t 0-2

A change in formation for the second half saw the Darby loanee take to the stage, and he duly delivered with something of a scrappy goal to half the deficit shortly after the start of the second half. To be fair, a much improved performance saw the defence tighten up; the attacking midfield continue their good work in terms of approach play; and the forwards contriving to somehow miss when it seemed easier to score. And so…

F/t 1-2

And let’s stop blaming the officials for the teams deficiencies eh. Leave that to the one-eyed mob at the Lamb! We are better than that!

Saturday - if it goes ahead - I'd say is a now a must-win game.

Finally, a crowd of over 1,100 (yes, I know they include no-show season ticket holders) - I don't think so!

.... despite the side looking like a group of individuals .... hurtling down a river of excrement .... in a vessel with no means of propulsion .... there are one or two positives .... the eight year old hooligan element have calmed down a bit .... we've solved the problem of huge queues in the bar .... and the fans have stopped moaning about the badge ....great work Moors ....

I still hate the badge and believe it plays a big part in our woes. It seems this bodiless pheonix is descending into the flames.

Someone commented that it's a bottle opener, just what we need to drown our sorrows I'd say!

The performances are nothing to do with the !@#$ badge. Ffs. It's a badge. Injuries and poor recruitment are why we're struggling. I don't think we'll go down like some people are saying. I don't think we'll be anywhere near going down.

But if we did we get on with it. I'd still be at games every week.

The scunthorpe game is absolutely massive. We somehow lose that then as I said we may aswell get relegated on that result alone. I think we'll win though 3-0

Fair summary Martyr👍

My first game for a while and it’s noticeable how bereft of confidence we look, created enough chances to win the game but couldn’t execute.

New lad Whelan looks decent, not sure about Symth, as Statto pointed out he’s so right footed yet we play him on the left🤷‍♂️ Need a win Saturday with a massive test next Tuesday.

Apologies to those in the main stand who had to listen to my berating of the ref and 4th official, it’s all I could do to enjoy myself/keep warm🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Only Moors could batter the opposition to a 2-1 victory! Unfortunately Aldershot is about Moors' level this season, we're a mid-table-at-best team.

Yet again we conceded a goal through an attack down our left flank. I think any opponent that does their homework will look to exploit our left side.

We are lacking a "poacher" who will stay in the box to pose a threat. All too often, Dallas and Kelly would pull out onto the wings, leaving nobody in the box, then the likes of Barney and the fullbacks would have nobody to aim their crosses at. At least when we had Rooney and Hudlin (and Danny Wright before them), you could guarantee that there would be a target man somewhere around the 6-yard box any time we had the ball in a threatening area.

On the positive side, Whelan looks quality and played well in the "Kyle Storer" role, sitting in front of the back four and keeping the midfield cogs turning.

Even the optimist in me is looking over my shoulder at the bottom end of the table. If things don't change, we could sleep-walk into a relegation dog-fight. I know we're closer to the playoff places than to the bottom four, but we are in relegation form and there's still a fair chunk of the season to play. Perhaps the curse of the losing playoff finalist has struck Moors - look at Torquay and Fylde as recent examples of a rapid fall from the highs of the playoffs to scrapping at the wrong end of the table.

I think the board are already hitting the relegation dogfight panic button. With them having invested over £4m in the club in recent years, relegation would be beyond disastrous for them and by extension the club, with them either having to write off the investment or try to recoup the money from a club with no means of paying back director loans of that order of magnitude.

They are already making signings to reconstruct the squad, and I think Ardley would be shown the door before we were genuinely dragged towards the bottom of the table. The future of the club has basically been gambled on producing a team capable of promotion to League 2 while going through the long process of building up a fanbase capable of sustaining it. Nobody can afford failure on the level of being pulled into a relegation scrap.

The question is how long do you give the manager if things continue to be like this?

If he felt as though he wasn't being backed then he could easily just walk.

Maybe they'll assess his position at the end of the season.
