Redditch sanctioned by the Conference

From the Conference website:

Redditch United met a Panel of independent members of the Football Conference, commissioned by the Board, on 27th January 2011 to consider a Misconduct charge under Rule 18.

The charge concerned an allegation of submitting misleading information in respect of financial reporting regulations.

As part of the findings of the commission the club was ordered to comply with certain conditions appertaining to information gleaned during the Hearing.

The club was advised failure to adhere to these conditions would result in the suspended sentence of a five-point deduction from its league table score, would be imposed.

On its own admission, Redditch United has failed to adhere to the instructions of the commission and the full sanction is now imposed with immediate effect.

Basically a total waste of time. OK they are in financial trouble, not new news exactly, but so what does this achieve? Kicking a man when he is down.

Rules are rules. If we were beating Redditch 10-0 and they're defender came in with a dangerous tackle and broke Beswicks leg you wouldn't say don't show him a red cos they're rubbish. It's got to be the same for everybody no matter how big or small they are.
Personally though.....i'd have knocked it off next seasons points emoticon

No Worf my objection is that the money side is penalised at this stage of the season when there really is no point. I'd agree that the points deduction might have some effect next season. Next we could decide the games by checking the teams balance sheets.

RoJ, it was a suspended 5 points penalty that was levied initially. But they contravened the regulations again, so simply the suspension of the 5 point penalty was lifted.

Redditch cannot says that they were not warned!

The penalty does of course mean that it is even more likely that Redditch will be relegated. They are effectively 15 points from safety with only 8 games to play. Their draw today is simply not enough.

I understand all this. Its the financial aspect that annoys me. I suggest that as ManU and Chelsea etc have far more money than anyone else in football they start the season with 20 points bonus. Of course this is ridiculous, especially as their balance sheets are in the red. Redditch are a local team with very little going for them at present, so lets make it even harder.

I'm still not sure where you're coming from RoJ? Surely the key word in the statement is MISLEADING so they must have been telling porkies somewhere along the line to provoke this response from the league.

I'll try to explain:
I dislike the financially created deduction of points. Its hypocritical and only penalises the small or poor clubs, whereas the clubs that have massive operating debts, who hype the transfer market by paying mega-millions for the likes of Torres, or £35m for Andy Carrol ffs can just carry on regardless. Its akin to the bankers getting bonuses and the students getting bigger fees for me: unjust. It takes some doing but I actually feel sorry for Redditch.
